Wildfire Preparedness: The Five Aspects Of Readiness
by Paul Purcell
A classic 70s tune gives us the lyrics, She ran calling Wildfire.. Then a love song, but today, possibly the beginnings of an action / adventure / horror movie. With rainfall low, and temperatures and winds high, the wildfires were currently battling across the country are heavily taxing our first responder assets. More fires will surely follow if these conditions continue.
First responder assets aside, these fires have affected local civilians. Thousands have evacuated, and many find nothing but charred vacant lots when they return. What are some innovative ways civilians can protect themselves, their property, and actually help firefighters in the process?
At the household level, most of us have smoke detectors. Thats good, because in a house fire, as in a wildfire, where theres smoke, theres F.L.A.M.E.:
Family Something as massive as a wildfire will affect your whole family. Prepare them now.
Landscaping Simple and subtle steps can make your property much more fire resistant.
Awareness In an emergency, time is crucial. Stay aware of the threat and get the warnings early.
Moisture Some say you fight fire with fire. We say you fight fire with water.
Evacuation Even after taking all the other steps, a wildfire is something best avoided.
Family
A prepared and involved family is far more able to handle any type of disaster than those who wait for last-minute instruction. Therefore, one of the best things you can do for your family is to prepare them for one of the most common and least forgiving enemies; fire.
1. Take the family on a fire-safety tour through the house. Locate dangers such as overloaded electrical outlets and safety items such as extinguishers and escape routes.
2. In emergencies, redundancy is our friend. You should have more than one smoke detector, fire extinguisher, and escape route from rooms or the house. Hint: If youre a heavy sleeper, buy a baby monitor. Put the transmitter near the farthest smoke detector and the receiver in your bedroom.
3. Make sure everyone in the family knows how to use a fire extinguisher, and how to call 911.
4. Have regular fire drills. Let each family member have a turn being the one who discovers the fire and who has to warn others. On at least every other drill, have everyone evacuate blind-folded on their hands and knees (while exercising due safety) to mimic the realistic conditions of a fire evacuation.
5. Revisit every family emergency plan with the whole family during wildfire season and certainly if one is in your area and possibly heading your way.
Landscaping
Though tragedies usually take the lead in newscasts, stories still abound of how some homeowners managed to protect their properties from wildfire by simple and subtle changes with their landscaping and home. Take these steps now, since in a fire, time is of the essence.
1. Your main landscaping consideration is to remove any dead, dry vegetation, whether on the ground or in your trees, that could transfer fire to your house. Since this aspect of wildfire preparedness has been adequately covered by others, here are a few good outside sources:
- General wildfire landscaping tips: http://www.firewise.org/resources/files/wildfr2.pdf
- Florida wildfire landscaping pointers: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pdffiles/FR/FR07600.pdf
- More on landscaping during wildfire season: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pdffiles/FR/FR04700.pdf
- Fire-resistant plants: http://web1.msue.msu.edu/emergency/pubs/wildfire_resistant.pdf
2. Be ready to seal your house before evacuating. Create covers for any opening on your home such as attic vents (roof turbines can be covered with metal trash cans), crawlspace openings, etc. Gather your material (such as plywood) and cut, paint, and label (where it goes) each cover now, keeping them stored on your property for immediate use. Put a couple of hooks over each opening you might cover and drill corresponding holes in the plywood covers. The hooks will hold the cover in place while you drill in the screws. This allows one person to do the job and frees up others to perform other necessary tasks. Hint: Also make covers for your windows (including garage door windows) just as if you lived in a hurricane zone.
3. Create a fire tool box and include everything needed to prep your house in advance of a wildfire. Store extra garden hoses, water sprinklers, Y connectors for extra hoses, wrenches to turn off your gas, rolls of heavy-duty aluminum foil (to cover the openings you didnt make covers for), machetes and gloves for last minute brush clearing, etc. Store extra tools because you wont have time to replace tools that might have been broken or lost.
4. Make sure first responders can see your homes address. Put your house number on your mailbox, near your front door, and painted on the curb by your driveway.
Awareness
A common theme in all our publications and presentations is the fact that in an emergency, our most crucial asset is time (see our other articles at http://www.disasterprep101.com). The two key elements of time in a wildfire are one, to have as much done in advance as possible, and two, get as early a warning as possible.
1. Dont wait for a wildfire to approach to start your landscaping. Perform that now and keep your property as fire-retardant as you can.
2. Dont wait for the smell of smoke to warn you a fire is on its way. If fire conditions are right, monitor news channels and listen for community warnings.
3. Learn to recognize your community warnings. Does your community have a reverse 911 system? Sirens? Will the local TV or radio station broadcast the alert? If your community doesnt have any of these systems, why not start them in your neighborhood? At the very least, have a phone tree.
4. Buy an NOAA Weather Alert Radio since theyre being incorporated into the overall Emergency Alert System. You should also know who your local Ham Radio operators are. See http://www.arrl.org
Moisture
Water is the king of firefighting and fire suppression substances. The best protection for your property lies in your ability to keep a dome of moisture in one form or another all over and around your home.
1. One publication under landscaping above lists beneficial plants that hold their moisture well. Regardless of the types of plant life in your yard, keep them well hydrated (while following watering ordinances).
2. When setting up your sprinklers, give your yard adequate spray coverage, especially over areas that might worsen the fire such as an above-ground propane tank or wooden deck attached to your house. The best sprinkler for surface areas is the professional directional type rather than the small garden variety that only sprays a weak pattern over a small area. Your garden store rep can help.
3. Put sprinklers on your roof, being sure to anchor them in place since the high winds generated in some wildfire wind storms can blow them off the roof.
4. If you have an in-ground sprinkler system, great! It will give you even water coverage over the grounds and provide a good foundation for the comprehensive water system youll need. To your in-ground system add separate fire lines that feed water to sprinklers that either spray directly against your house, or outward from your yard to cover vegetation surrounding your property. Too, have a sprinkler line permanently installed on your roof to save you the time of manually putting sprinklers up there. Also, install an additional input valve to allow water from a secondary source like a water pump drawing from your swimming pool.
5. If you have a pool, pond, well, or creek, you have a reservoir that should be put to good use so you dont draw off the municipal water firefighters need to prevent fire from nearing your property in the first place. Its a simple matter to keep a gas-powered generator (which self-reliant families should have) and a water pump (such as a pressure-washer), and use the two to draw water from your pool and feed it to your sprinklers. If you have a well with an electric pump, hook your generator to the pump to keep it running should local power fail. Exercise caution when setting up your generator so it doesnt start its own fire.
6. A final consideration with sprinklers is position. Cover the outer perimeter of your yard, spray against the outer walls and roof of your house, and cover the crowns of your trees if possible. Also, consider outward-pointing sprinklers anchored to an elevated position such as an upper floor deck or porch, or your roof.
Evacuation
We strongly recommend evacuation, even if youve taken all the above steps and feel they might work. Its best that you be pre-prepped and ready to leave at a moments notice since time is our most valuable asset. The more ready you are in advance, the more time you have.
1. All your landscaping steps should be taken care of now and maintained, especially during fire season.
2. In wildfire-prone areas, and especially during wildfire season, keep your bugout kits and vehicle ready at all times (with fuel tanks topped off). Hint: With your documents, keep the non-emergency numbers for local authorities so you can call to find out when its safe to return.
3. Perform last-minute landscaping ONLY if time allows, since youll want extra time to perform the household shutdown steps. However, dont do anything until youve loaded your car with provisions and have nothing left to load but people and pets (in their carriers and/or ready to go).
4. Inside the house do the following:
- Move all flammables (such as furniture and curtains) away from windows making sure each is closed and latched. Lower and close any metallic blinds.
- Leave your fireplace damper open, and close the fireplace protective cover.
- Close all interior doors but dont lock them.
- Turn off your heat/AC system, and cover any window air-conditioners or floor heater vents with aluminum foil and duct tape inside and out.
- Turn off all gas coming into the house whether from underground line or above-ground tank.
- Turn on inside and outside lights so your property is visible in heavy smoke. Firefighters may need to use it as a beacon.
5.To protect the valuables you dont have room for in your evacuation vehicle, consider these:
- For waterproof valuables, put them in a bathtub, storage tub, or trashcan youve filled with water. (Notice we didnt recommend your pool, since you should be using it to feed your sprinklers.)
- Large valuables such as antique furniture, etc. should be carried into the center of the house on the lowest floor (the same place youd go in a tornado).
- Major appliances, such as your oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, clothes washer, and dryer, tend not to be consumed by flame or crushed by debris and thereby offer a protected storage location for other valuables. Hint: Disposable diapers are surprisingly flame resistant, and might be useful as wraps for some items stored in an appliance.
6.Lock up the house, leave a note on the door telling authorities youve evacuated, check with neighbors to make sure theyre on their way to safety, hop in your vehicle, and leave. Hint: If the area is getting smoky, listen to your radio for road closure information, turn your headlights on low, and set your climate controls to re-circulate so as not to draw in smoke from outside the vehicle.
Naturally, this is an article that could go for a few dozen more pages since its such an important topic and certainly one where we could offer extensive detail. For now, this will have to do. Will the above information make you fireproof and prevent any damage to your property? No. But its very likely to help, especially if you take these steps now. Taking these measures also helps firefighters since any time a wildfire is delayed or a home protected, you take one more item off the shoulders of first responders. Prep now, stay safe, and remember that preparedness is not only a social responsibility; its your only true protection.

Put Pasta Back On The Table
Put Pasta Back On The Table
by Kadence Buchanan
Pasta has existed since the days of the Roman Empire and remains one of the most versatile cooking ingredients, as no storage room or cupboard should be without it. It can be combined with meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, or even a simple herb sauce to create a mouthwatering and nutritious meal within minutes.
Most pasta is made from durum wheat flour and contains protein and carbohydrates. It is a good source of slow-release energy and has the additional advantage of being value for money.
There are as many as 200 different pasta shapes and about three times as many names for them. New shapes are being designed and named allt the time and the same shape might be called a different name in different regions in Itally. Some types of pasta are the agnolotti, anelli, bucatini, cannelloni, capalletti, ditali, elicje, farfalle, fettuccine, fusilli, lasagne, linguini, macaroni, penne, ravioli, rigatoni, spaghetti and tagliatelle. Many can be found in both dried and fresh forms, but unless you have access to a good, Italian delicatessen, it is probably not worth buying fresh unfilled pasta, even from supermarkets that sell high-quality tortellini, capalletti, ravioli, and agnolotti. Best of all is to make fresh pasta at home. It takes little time, but is quite easy and well worth the effort. You can mix the dough by hand or prepare it in a food processor. Pasta may be colored and flavored with extra ingredients that are usually added with the beaten egg.
To cook pasta, first bring a large pan of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and one tablespoon of olive oil, but do not cover the pot or the water will boil over. Quickly bring the water back to a rolling boil and avoid overcooking. When the pasta is tender, but still firm to the bite, drain and toss with butter, olive oil, or your prepared sauce. The cooking times provided here are guidelines only:
- Fresh unfilled pasta: 2-3 minutes
- Fresh filled pasta: 8-10 minutes
- Dried unfilled pasta: 10-12 minutes
- Dried filled pasta: 15-20 minutes
Pasta can be used to make anything, from soups to more substantial pasta-based meals, which are as delicious and unusual starter, or as a quick and easy lunch or light supper. Others are subtle and delicate. Combining vegetables, meat, fish and cheese with every type of pasta, from linguine to lumache, one can enjoy a nutritional and delicious meal from start to finish.

Boost Your Business With Effective Financial Management
Boost Your Business With Effective Financial Management
by Suzanne Macguire
Working Capital, to put it briefly, refers to a business organization's total current assets (short-term ones), marketable securities, accounts receivables, inventory, and cash. Management of the financial segment is a great responsibility that demands equal attention on investments as well as sources of income (both long term and short term). In fact, a business firm can never enhance its value if it fails to survive initial hiccups in the short run. Hence, efficient management of finances is essential for any business to survive.
Strategies to finance short-term working capital needs much greater attention than are usually practiced. Precisely speaking, there are two short-term working capital financing options; business cash advance programs and short-term commercial mortgage loan programs that have been often overlooked. But these two working capital funding options are excellent for small and new business ventures to ward initial financial obstructions off their way. Business cash advance is one of the best financing options for businesses accepting credit cards as mode of payment. Speaking of benefits, business cash advance offers great help even to prospering businesses. For instance, even thriving businesses need working capital that might not be borrowed from a bank. Under these circumstances, business cash advance or merchant cash advance programs come to the rescue. Retail chains, bars, and restaurants, service businesses are highly benefited from these finance programs.
Receivable factoring or "credit card factoring" is another unique working capital management strategy, whereby the businesses sell their future receivables at a discount. However, it is not possible for all small businesses to document their receivables in order to qualify for this financing option. The documented sales volume and credit card sales activity of these small businesses serve as financial asset to attain a business cash advance or a merchant cash advance.
Not negating the importance of short-term working capital loans, it is also necessary to understand the importance of long-term working capital management. While planning to finance your business long-term, make sure to get hold of a long-term commercial mortgage for at least 15-20 years. In a few cases though it becomes essential to avoid long-term commercial mortgage loans and opt for its short-term counterpart. This would especially be applicable for those who intend to sell or refinance their business within one to five years. In fact, availing short-term commercial mortgage loans comes with the added advantage of negating prepayment penalties and "lockout" fees, normally associated with long-term loans.
There are few lenders providing effective services for both these financial strategies. Hence, working capital loan in the form of business cash advance programs or commercial mortgage loans should be chosen with great care.

Restaurants Start-Up and Systems Success
Restaurants Start-Up and Systems Success
by Daryl Des Marais
If you have a restaurant business or are planning on starting a restaurant business then there are several things you will need to do. Find the right products and supplies to start your organization. hiring the right staff, having a menu that is attractive to local consumers, and above all having the right location with the right atmosphere. Some good principles to follow when doing this is develop a business start-up strategy covering the above areas.
In starting a restaurant you may want to consider restaurants that are for sale, but be wary of the cost of leasing and the condition of the current business infrastructure and services to the building. You want to be able to start a restaurant with a minimum number of headaches when it comes to bills in the first few months. What is most important is generating the volume of customers you need and having a suitable systems and staffing operation to carry through on your potential successes.
Having worked under a successful chef in a French Bistro in the past, who ended up selling his business in a matter of years, over 20 years ago and helping some other owners become successful in expanding their customer base I can give you a few pointers.
1. Location of the Restaurant- This is key to the future of your business, the location must be suitable to traffic, if it is not then you better have a ... good reason for people to get to your location that no one else has. Traffic by foot and by cars as well as other means is important. Determining the traffic numbers in both these areas as others is very important for future business reasons.
2. Finding the Right Supplies for your Restaurant- There are so many suppliers in the restaurant industry and there are also numerous brokers, repairmen and resellers. You must tread carefully and do your homework, determine the benefits of the purchase and the costs. It could be as simple as drawing a line down the paper and including positive and negatives or doing a more involved cost benefit analysis. Also having an accountant review the opportunity would be beneficial in saving you problems down the road.
An example of a restaurant management supplier is: http://www.sodexho.com/food-management-services/restaurant-supply-wholesale.htm
3. Menu- One of the most important things may be the menu, especially in a larger city where there is more competition. You must adhere strictly to a defined menu that accentuates you and word of mouth about the best food you have in your chosen specialty. Size of the menu is also important in consideration of your costs and the types of foods you want to serve and or mix using basic ingredients. The opportunity to have prepared food is also available in assisting you with labour costs in preparing food.
An example for cost effective menu making online is: http://www.themenumaker.com/
4. Staffing- Staffing can be challenging, and in this industry, like other industries that can be entry-level at times it may be hard to find workers with dedication, principle and good ethics. Developing a good job description including duties and expectations and having a training day and or someone to assist them in job shadowing is beneficial. There are numerous other opportunities that you can use in developing HR Strategy. A good business example of HR Strategy in business would be IBM. In the restaurant industry you might look to good examples such as McDonald's, Starbucks or A&W. You might not have the leverage they have to offer some of the services of strategies but there are opportunities to offer similar environments. This however, takes a lot of time and work and having a hr consultant or business consultant would be beneficial. Having team uniforms may be one way to identify with your customers and may also benefit your staff's hygiene. A good example is: http://www.bestbuyuniforms.com/
5. Layout, Design and Attraction- This can make or break some businesses in the restaurant industry depending on their competition and consumer demand. Some areas expect a certain level of quality in service or food or variety in food selection. Other areas demand a layout that is unique and appealing or beneficial for movement. There are many options and completing a little research, getting feedback from other developers and restaurants.
A good book to read on restaurant design is: http://www.successfulrestaurantdesign.com/
6. Business Systems- There are numerous business systems available in the restaurant industry such as Squirrel, Microsoft etc. For more information on some of the current advanced portable systems see: http://www.actionsystems.com/

Fix it and Flip it - How I Lost Money on Real Estate
Fix it and Flip it - How I Lost Money on Real Estate
by Jonni Good
I've known a lot of people who have lost money when they sold their homes. In fact, I'm one of those people, and it's happened to me more than once.
There are a number of factors can cause a financial loss when you sell your house, including the need to sell at the wrong time due to divorce or an impending foreclosure, or a downturn in the local real estate market. However, it's also common to lose money simply by making too many expensive changes to the house before putting it on the market. This is how I lost money on real estate, before I wised up.
My most resounding failure in the fix it and flip it market was a house I bought in Spokane, Washington. Knowing what I know now, I would have restricted myself to replacing the carpets and the kitchen and bathroom fixtures, painting inside and out, and buying new appliances. I probably would have replaced the old-style windows, too, to make the place look nicer and appeal to the energy-conscious buyer. These fixes could have been done easily within the two years I needed to live there to avoid capital gains taxes.
Since I didn't know what I know now, I made major renovations, which included moving the bathroom. I did most of the work myself, but the materials alone cost more than I could get back when the house was sold. With the exception of repairs done to the house to make it eligible for an FHA loan and watering the grass, I doubt that any of my major projects really helped me sell the house or increased its value.
If a house is actually sound, with no structural damage or insect problems, the biggest reason it will sell for less than its worth is usually cosmetic. This was certainly true of the house I bought in Spokane. Dirty carpeting, and a wall in the living room covered with mirror tiles, kept most buyers from going any further into the house. I could see past the cosmetic problems and see the home's full potential - but my imagination went a bit too far.
The floor plan was odd, and slightly inconvenient, but leaving the bathroom where it was would have been far more rational, financially. Why didn't I do that? Because my emotions and my nesting instincts took over, pushing aside all thought of future gain or loss.
Let's face it - most people don't buy their own homes with the intention of making a profit, although they certainly hope the house will be a good investment. In fact, the emotional stress caused by the process of buying a house and moving into it can be enough to completely erase any thought of moving again a few years later. However, I know several families who have made a very good living by buying underpriced homes, living in them and fixing them up, and then selling them when the IRS will allow them to do so without paying extra taxes. Clearly, these folks don't make any changes to these houses without carefully considering the bottom line.
After my Spokane adventure, I decided to learn from my mistakes, and find out how to stop losing money on houses. I read books by authors who are experienced in fixing and flipping houses - and then read them again. When I saw that most remodeling projects almost never recoup their costs when the house is sold, I was a little shocked, because I had been guilty of almost every mistake on the list at one time or another. I know many people who have also made the same mistakes, even when they started those remodeling projects with the intention of increasing the value of their homes.
When I bought my next house, I kept that list very firmly in mind. For instance, my kitchen was badly in need of a major overhaul, (or so I believed), and it was far too small. I pored over the latest home decorating magazines, and ideas came flooding into my head. I thought about knocking out some walls, and I even tried to imagine adding on to the house to make the kitchen bigger. New cabinets would be needed, and new appliances...
In the end I painted the kitchen cabinets and replaced the sink with a new one I purchased at Ikea. I covered the chipped orange Formica counters with printed cotton fabric, and coated it with many layers of water-based Verathane that was intended to protect wood floors. The complete "remodel" cost less than $400, as opposed to the thousands of dollars that I would have spent if I followed through on my idle dreams of a "perfect" kitchen. Since the house sold at a very good price within two weeks of listing it, my buyer obviously didn't mind that the kitchen didn't meet my idea of perfect. Because I kept my costs down, I made a handy profit on the sale.
Would I have been able to sell the house for more money if the kitchen had been remodeled and expanded? Perhaps, but not enough to cover the cost of the remodel. Although the National Association of Realtors lists a kitchen remodel as one of the projects that will increase a house the most, they still advise that you should expect to get back only 80% of the costs. If your new kitchen is far fancier, bigger, and more expensive than any other kitchen in the neighborhood, the returns will be even less. A full kitchen remodel can cost thousands of dollars, so the 20% you don't get back can be a big chunk of change.
Does this mean that you shouldn't make changes to your home that would make you happy? Not at all, especially if you intend to live there for many years. But it does pay to sit down with your spouse or partner before you start making your remodeling plans, determine exactly how long you'll be staying in the home, and then think about the full financial implications of the remodeling project. Even if you don't think of yourself as a professional house flipper, it might pay to slow down a bit and find ways to improve the home without spending money you'll never see again. As a bonus, your family might be able to avoid the stress and disruption of all that remodeling mess.

Things That Could Go Wrong With A Business Affiliate Program
Things That Could Go Wrong With A Business Affiliate Program
by Mario Churchill
If you dont know or have what it takes to manage a business affiliate program, a lot of things could go wrong and result to a reduced market size, shrinking sales, a worsening reputation and other negative effects for your business.
Things that Could Go Wrong with a Business Affiliate Program
MISCONCEPTION: The Network behind a Business Affiliate Program Will Grow by Itself.
One good reason why many business affiliate programs fail at the first attempt is because its owners or managers often and mistakenly believe that their network of affiliates will grow by itself. This is completely false. A business affiliate program will never increase in size if its not being nurtured properly. Dont depend on your affiliates to spread the word thats not why they signed up to be your affiliates. Its up to you to increase your network size by actively recruiting affiliates continuously.
MISCONCEPTION: More Affiliates Automatically Mean More Sales.
Strictly speaking, however, thats not quite true. When youre recruiting for affiliates for your business, focus on quality rather than quantity. Dont just hire anyone right away. Set qualifications that you know an affiliate must meet to have better chances of earning. Its for their sake as well, anyway!
If, for example, youre selling pet products then its important that your affiliate if theyre using blogs or personal websites to have a keen interest (although knowledge would definitely help) in pet products or pets in general and that the content of their blogs or websites must be directly connected to the topic.
You will have more chances of earning from two people who know what theyre marketing than from three people who are only interested in hosting your ads and nothing else.
MISCONCEPTION: A Business Affiliate Program Does Not Need to Provide Motivation and Support to Its Affiliates.
Wrong again! Affiliates are not your employees. If they are, then youd have the right to require them to work for certain hours each day and to perform certain actions during certain situations. But theyre not your employees so you have no hold over them. This, however, doesnt mean that you cant and dont need to give them motivation and support. In fact, its important that you give them both as theyre the only way for you to ensure that theyll continue working as affiliates.
MISCONCEPTION: A Business Affiliate Program is Easy to Understand for Everyone.
While most people are able to understand how business affiliate programs work, there are those who cant. People who were born prior to the advent of the Internet or those who are newly introduced to the wonders of the web are good examples of these people.
While these individuals currently dont have the know-how to work in the Internet, they may have other integral qualities that youre looking for in an affiliate. Take the time to invest in them. Create a special FAQ section for them and so they can understand how a business affiliate program works step by step.
MISCONCEPTION: A Business Affiliate Program Will Work Right Away.
Even if you have all the right ingredients to make a successful business affiliate program, that doesnt immediately signify youll be able to rake in dollars right away. Earning from business affiliate programs take time, just like any other online marketing strategy. It also takes hard work and perseverance. If its your first time to launch an online business, avoid pinning up all your hopes on building an affiliate program. While it can certainly work in boosting sales, it wont serve as a primary source of income for your business. That can happen later, but it wont happen at the start.
MISCONCEPTION: A Business Affiliate Program Doesnt Need Great Products and Services.
Just because youve chosen the best payment structure and hired the best affiliates doesnt mean you will immediately have a surefire way of earning money. All of those will mean nothing if you havent given your affiliates excellent products or services to sell or advertise.
If you want your business affiliate program to work, start by working on your products and services. Are they competitively priced? Do they offer features and benefits that your target market is looking for? Can they be something you could innovate in the long term or develop into other newer and better products and services?
These are just some of the things that could go wrong with a business affiliate program. In the end, its important that you give your program the time and effort it deserves to prevent it from failing.

Have you ever take the time to ask what is the true motivation of the Agent that you select to sell your home?
When it comes time to select a real estate agent to sell your home, you probably have 3 choices when it comes to the type of real estate agent you select based upon the Fee Structure that they use and the resulting motivation that this may or may not cause the agent to have. These 3 categories are a "full fee" structure, a "discounter fee" structure and a blend called a "flexible fee" structure.
The distinction between the different categories can be drawn in two main areas. 1.) How the Deal Comes Together & 2.) Who Finds the Buyer
A "discounter fee" structure real estate agent goes into the transaction with a fee that is significantly reduced for the amount charged by the full fee agent. This is based upon a business model that limits the scope of services that are going to be performed during the course of the transaction. In the end, this approach also will pay out more money to the party that is trying to negotiate against you, the buyers agent. Consider that the Discount Agent may be looking to "Double End" the transaction because there is more money available to the Buyers Agent as compared to the Sellers Agent. To me, this sounds like a conflict of interest, but that may just be me.
A "full fee" structure agent structures the commission charges that no matter how the deal comes together and with no concern as to which agent actually ends up working with the buyer of the property. Consider the following, there is little motivation for a "Full Fee" agent to market the property out to the buyer agent community because the Full Fee Agent may be looking to represent both the buyer of the property and you the seller of the property at the same time. This would influence what marketing avenues and vehicles that an agent would be looking to use.
A flexible fee - choose your own commission (http://www.theearlofrealestate.net/selling_flexible_real_estate_fee.aspx) structure agent will charge a flexible amount dependent upon the way inwhich the sale comes together. If the listing agent is able to attract the buyer directly then they get a minimal increase in the overall compensation, sometimes ranging up to 1% in addition to the amount being charged for listing the property. This is a far cry from the amount charged by the Full Fee agent that double ends the property and thus doubles the commission. This is also a lower amount than the Discounter charges for double ending the property from the base 1% commission to a 300% increase for working with the buyer and seller.
Keep in mind that all of this is controlled and regulated by your own areas laws on agency and whether or not an agent can truly represent both parties to a transaction under a dual or designated representation agreement. Check to see what applies in your particular area.
Bottom Line, As with anything, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. Make sure that you select an agent and a structure when selling your home in Northern Virginia (http://www.theearlofrealestate.net/Selling.aspx) that provides you with the level of comfort that the agent is truly motivated to get your home sold and that you will be getting value for your commission dollars.

Show Your Appreciation with Thank You Gift Baskets
Show Your Appreciation with Thank You Gift Baskets
by Morgan Hamilton
Have you ever expressed your gratitude through thank you gift baskets? Every time someone did anything special for me, I often show my appreciation by giving them these gifts. I create these baskets myself and I often incorporate things that the recipients like on the design. They are also available on the market, but people would appreciate homemade thank you gift baskets more than pre-made ones.
I recently made two thank you gift baskets for people who have done some special things for my family. I have a next door neighbor who has an adorable six-year-old son and she is always bringing over his old toys for my younger son. Some of these toys were expensive, like the childrens keyboard and wooden puzzles, and I wanted to thank her for her kindness.
Since her son has everything his heart desires, it is practically impossible to buy him a toy. He owns a lot of them and buying more would only clutter the house and he doesnt even play with half of what he already has. I decided that it would be appropriate if I create one of my thank you gift baskets for the woman who has been generous to my son.
My next door neighbors favorite activity is drinking. She drinks a lot and would always talk about the new cocktails she mixes in the kitchen. I realized that one of those thank you gift baskets filled with coffee, tea, or sweets wouldnt suit her. I decided to make her a custom made basket filled with liquor. She was overjoyed with my gift and she responded by making pomegranate martinis that night using the vodka from her basket, and then she invited me and my husband over to drink with her.
Giving thank you gift baskets is a perfect way to let someone know you appreciate them without buying them a silly trinket they may not like. Ive created different kinds of thank you gift baskets filled with stuffed animals, fruits, coffee products, and booze, depending on the recipients taste. The only drawback is that gift baskets can be expensive especially if you overdo them. Try to use your imagination to create a charming yet inexpensive present.

Rebates Can Be Incentives
Rebates Can Be Incentives
by Mario Churchill
Incentives are financial or non-financial factors which provide the course of action, simply known as the motive, in economics. These are basically the reasons why management decides in the way it does. By studying the incentives available on the situation, economic activity and decision-making is centralized. Even if it be in competition or cooperation, economic analysts believe that by concentrating on the available incentives, any business will succeed.
Incentives are classified on ways they motivate the business to take part of a specific action. Here are three class:
1. Remunerative or financial incentives. These exist when the agent can get more than just the material reward in the business.
2. Moral incentives. These exist when a specific choice is said to be the proper action to make. It is often admirable. Failure to do this option is interpreted as indecent. Anyone acting on moral incentives basically expects approval, admiration and self-esteem from the team. Anyone acting against moral incentives can foresee a feeling of guilt and even condemnation and ostracism from the community.
3. Coercive incentives. These exist when someone is expected to not do a particular action which is expected from them by the community.
Incentives are different from coercion, aside from the third kind. Economic moralists see the coercive incentives as a driven work that is polished by incentives. Employment, volunteering and entrepreneurship are fine examples of incentives. Serfdom or slavery is said to be coercion.
Individuals can also have their own incentives. These are grouped under personal incentives. It can motivate the employee on their desires, pride, tastes, sense of duty and personal drives in order to do well in the job and do those remarkable feats and artistic creation they have been dreaming of doing.
Setting personal incentives on the other side does not mean that these are not as important as the others mentioned earlier. Its purpose is to comprehend the action of each employee better since social incentives and how it is structured exist in effect of how society is arranged. By closely studying the actions and the motives of each individual employee, the corporation will be able to get the drift on how they should manage them.
Rebates, on the other hand, are kinds of promotion marketers that are basically used as incentives in order to supplement the sales of the product. The most common in business is the mail-in-rebate.
It entitles the targeted buyer to purchase the product via receipt, coupon or barcode. This is done the minute he gets the check of the amount stated on the paperwork. It depends on the product he is receiving as well as the time of the purchase and the place where it was bought.
Rebates are usually offered in relation to the manufacturer and the purchase of a specific item. Large stores work with manufacturers and require that there are two to three rebates for each product. Sometimes, manufacturer rebates can only be claimed as valid in a specific store. Sometimes, these rebates are only accommodated in specific stores. These receipts or special rebate forms are printed from the cash register when the purchase has been made.
A number of rebates are handled by a contract that specializes in the procedural contest application of the rebates. Fees are not quickly discerned but as long as there is a clear understanding between the management of the store and the production of the item, then rebates are said to be a consumers incentive.

Different Types Of Refrigeration
Different Types Of Refrigeration
by Glenn Day
Each and every day, millions of people in the United States use a refrigerator. Many businesses depend on them as they are crucial to maintain our foods safety. When it comes down to it, refrigerators are so commonplace in our day, it is hard to imagine people would add chemicals or use ice to keep things cool. Beyond the refrigerator in a home setting, most people never even think of the extensive technology required to keep commercial and industrial food appropriately cooled at all times. Generally speaking, equipment is needed to protect and store goods, largely food, during shipping by road, rail, air and sea. Without the ability to do this, food would have no way of being moved from one area to the next without spoiling.
Domestic vs. Commercial Refrigeration
Domestic Refrigeration: This type of refrigeration is one that is familiar to most homeowners. Refrigerators and freezers that you keep in your home fall under this category. This is the type of unit that is used to keep food cold in a residential environment.
Commercial Refrigeration: This type of refrigeration holds and displays frozen and fresh food in retail stores, as well as other like establishments. In most cases, this type of refrigeration is farther advanced than refrigerators that you would find in residential homes. As you can imagine, it is crucial that many commercial establishments keep their refrigerators up to date with food safety regulations. This ranges from retail stores to restaurants and many more.
Food processing and Storage: This type of refrigeration is used to preserve process and store the food from its source to the wholesale division. If you are not in the food industry, you probably do not have much knowledge on this type of refrigeration. But even though you may not know about this, it still affects you in more ways than you can imagine. After all, you want your food to be fresh when it finally arrives at your home, right?
There is also a large variety of specialized equipment that may be required to protect and store foods when being shipped by road, rail, air, and sea. In other words, the food cannot thaw out just because it is in transit. Instead, special equipment is used to make sure that food is kept at the appropriate temperature regardless of transportation method.
All in all, there are many different types of refrigeration that help to ensure the overall quality and safety of food.

Tea: How Do You Drink White Tea?
Tea: How Do You Drink White Tea?
by Marcus Stout
Tea is the worlds most popular beverage, next to water. But, some people are still fairly new to tea drinking, and are still learning the popular varieties and deciding which ones are they like best.
One of the tea varieties thats most popular today is white tea. White tea comes from the same plant as black and green teas, the camellia sinensis. What makes white tea different is when it is harvested and how its processed. White tea is harvested much earlier than other teas, before the leaves are fully open.
At this point in the growing process, the tea buds are still covered by fine white hair, which is why its referred to as white tea. Unlike other types of tea, both buds and leaves are used in white tea. White tea undergoes very little processing, and is not fermented.
The leaves are simply steamed (or occasionally fired) and then dried. Sometimes, tea harvesters will even steam the leaves right in the field, and then let them dry in the sun.
Fewer people are familiar with white tea in part because over the years theres been far less white tea grown and processed than other teas. In fact, many years ago white tea was reserved for use at the highest tea ceremonies, and was considered tea for the elite.
Even today, less white tea is grown in the world than other types of tea. However, as it gains popularity, its likely that more of a tea gardens harvest may be devoted to white tea. However, at least for now, white tea is rarer than black and green teas, and therefore more expensive.
White tea is a very healthy beverage. Because it undergoes very little processing, white tea retains its anti-oxidants. In fact, its estimated that white tea contains an even higher and more effective anti-oxidant level than green tea. There have been very few studies on white teas ability to prevent and help treat disease.
However, since white teas anti-oxidants are similar to those of green tea, about which much research exists to suggest health benefits, its assumed that white tea carries those same benefits. Green teas anti-oxidants have been shown to fight diseases like cancer, heart disease and high cholesterol. In addition, white tea has been shown to boost your immune system, improving your bodys ability to fight diseases, particularly infections.
So, What Does It Taste Like?
White tea is paler in color and has less aroma than black and green tea. Its flavor is light and slightly sweet. You wont find a white tea with the bold flavors you can find in black and green teas. If brewed properly, it has no bitterness and no after taste. In addition, it lacks the grassy flavor that you often find in green tea.
How to Brew
Youll brew white tea in much the same way as black or green tea. Use fresh, cold tap water, or filtered water. Put the water in a clean tea kettle and put it on the stove to heat. While the water is heating, put hot tap water into your teapot to warm it up. Bring the water to a boil and then remove it from the heat for sixty seconds.
White tea should be brewed with water that is somewhere between 170 and 185 F. By bringing the water to a boil and then letting it sit for one minute, you should ensure just the right temperature for white tea.
During this sixty second lull, remove the hot tap water from your teapot and add the white tea leaves. White tea is less dense and compact than black and green tea, so youll need to use more. Begin with two teaspoons per cup as a starting point, adjusting to your taste.
White tea should be steeped for about 5-8 minutes, depending upon your taste. It will be pale; dont expect it to gain the color youre used to seeing with black tea. Read the steeping directions carefully, white teas steeping recommendations can vary greatly. There are even some white teas that should be steeped for up to 15 minutes.
Because of its slightly sweet flavor, its recommended that you not sweeten white tea. In fact, tea connoisseurs suggest that white tea be consumed without any additives for best flavor. In addition to being delicious hot, white tea is also very good iced.
As you experiment with white tea, youll find varieties you particularly enjoy. Some will have a bit more of a flower flavor and some will be fuller bodied than others, though none will match the body of a black or green tea.
As you get to know white tea, buy just a little of a variety until you decide whether or not its right for you. Since white tea (particularly in loose form) is so expensive, its not wise to buy a large quantity until you know whether or not youll like it.
White tea is available today in bag form and ready to drink bottles, as well. However, nothing matches the flavor of brewing a cup of white tea at home from loose tea leaves and drinking it while its still steaming. Give white tea a try; youre sure to love its sweet and refreshing flavor.

Domain Name Complications
Domain Name Complications
by George Meszaros
Some of the tell tale sites of domain name that may be easier to obtain are a home to low quality Web sites. If you find yourself in this situation, contact the registered owner and ask if they would consider selling it to you. If the price is right, you may be able to make a deal. To maintain a cool head during the process, dont act desperate to own the domain.
If the registered owner is willing to sell you the domain name be sure to use an escrow company. There are reputable escrow companies that will guide you through the buying process while minimizing your risks. It is worth spending a modest amount to ensure that you dont get burned in cyberspace.
Your Web address is part of your brand strategy, and you have to make sure it is easy to remember. Try to pick a name that is easy to remember. I once worked for a company called ZZYZX. The domain name was www.zzyzxdotcom. Even though it is a short name it is a terrible name, because nobody knew how to spell it or pronounce it. You want your customers to be able to remember and refer your brand to others, so make it as easy for them as you can.
Domain names can be of any length up to 67 characters, but I dont know why would anyone want a domain name 67 characters long. Your domain name can include 26 letters of the English alphabet, numbers 0-9, and hyphens (-).The domain name cannot begin or end with a hyphen but, it can contain one or more hyphens. Dont settle for a short domain name that doesnt compliment your business just to avoid a longer one. As a general rule, shorter domain names are easier to remember, easier to type and far less susceptible to mistakes. For example, "hellodotcom" is easier to remember and less prone to typos than "saygoodmorninginthemorningandgoodeveningintheeveningdotcom".
Others argue that a longer domain name is usually easier on people because it is easier to attach meaning. A short but cryptic name such as zzyzxdotcom is not at all better name than a longer meaningful domain name such as raidsforlessdotcom.

How To Hire Executive Protection
How To Hire Executive Protection
by David Almeida
Doing business sometimes comes along with a high degree of risk. There are patents that might be stolen. There are top secret plans that competitors are interested in obtaining. There's the money that comes from a high level of success.
Because of the risks and dangers associated with professionals who have reached a pinnacle of performance, many companies have begun to look into executive protection.
In many cases, executive protection comes in the form of a security advisor a bodyguard of sorts who works one on one with a high level executive. In other cases, executive protection is provided by a team of individuals who work together to identify which executives need security and what possible threats may be.
If you are looking into executive protection for within your business, following these steps can help you to make the right decisions.
1. Identify what your executive protection needs are. Which individuals in your organization are at risk? What are the risks to your organization is there a potential for kidnapping, do high ranking officers of the company go to dangerous places or interact extensively with the media? By taking the time to identify what your executive protection needs are, you can better choose the right professionals to perform those services.
2. Recognize that executive protection is not about muscled bodyguards as much as it is about having a plan in place for dealing with threats should they arise. Someone who offers executive protection is likely to have a keen eye for detail and to notice any indication that something could go awry.
3. Ensure that the staff of the company who will benefit from executive protection recognize that the service is meant to keep them safe; if your staff do not know and understand the risk, they will not work well with the members of the executive protection team.
4. Set limits so that the staff members to whom executive protection are assigned do not feel as though their personal space is being invaded; choose a protection system that will still allow them to feel as though they can leave work at the office.
5. Take the time to research your options and interview more than one person when you plan to hire executive protection. It's important to know that you're hiring the right people for the job.
One thing that you can do to ensure that you're choosing the right executive protection is to hire individuals who have experience assessing risk, performing security checks and finding background information individuals who are also private investigators are often a great addition to your executive protection team.
When a private investigator offers executive protection for your company, you can feel confident that risks from individuals are reduced because background checks can be performed. You'll be able, if you desire, to implement security systems within the office or business location. You will also, of course, be able to work with someone who has experience evaluating situations making it easy to know that your executive protection will indeed keep your staff safe.

The Secret to Becoming Rich
The Secret to Becoming Rich
by Elise Fisher
Napoleon Hill, the author of Think and Grow Rich, believes that a person does not have to be a genius to become rich. Any person can become wealthy if he thinks positively and has a deep desire to achieve his goal.
Positive Thinking: You must see your financial dreams and know that you will be able to attain them. You must already own them.
If you begin making up every rationalization under the sun why you can't succeed, pinch yourself. You have to discipline your body and mind to think positive thoughts. Teach yourself that those kind of thought patterns are unacceptable. You can obtain greatness, even if you are not the smartest, most talented, or best looking person in the world. Success is your if you'll just allow it to come into your life. Don't underestimate the power of your thoughts.
Burning Desire: Hill tells a true tale of a man named Edwin Barnes who desired to become Thomas Edison's partner. Most of us would have scoffed at him had we lived back then. Edwin Barnes was a nobody. Nevertheless, he had a deep desire, a life dream, and he was determined. He went to Thomas Edison and convinced him to hire him. He did not instantly achieve his dream, but he worked hard and ultimately became Thomas Edison's partner. This was a feat everyone thought was impossible.
Edwin Barnes followed these 7 steps to gain this great success:
1. Choose a definite dream.
2. Put all your energy into that dream.
3. Be willing to do menial work at first.
4. Visualize your dream.
5. Form a strategy.
6. Endure through the hard times.
7. Eliminate any way to retreat.
As you focus on obtaining your goals, answer these questions: What is the exact amount of money I want? What am I willing to sacrifice for it? What exact date do I want this money by? What is my strategy?
Don't forget, to successful people, there is no such thing as "defeat." What looks like defeat is no more than a great opportunity. Start creating opportunities out of failures and being successful today!

Tea: How Is White Tea Graded?
Tea: How Is White Tea Graded?
by Marcus Stout
White tea has become a very popular drink in recent years. Though its been grown at least as far back as the Tang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.), it is a new beverage to most people in the Western world.
Later, during the Song Dynasty (960-1279) the emperor Hui Zhong declared white tea to be the most elegant form of tea, and this declaration made white tea more popular and increased the number of tea gardens growing the variety. During this same dynasty, a new method of white tea preparation emerged, known as the Song method.
Prior to this, white tea leaves were processed into cakes and prepared by boiling pieces of the tea cake in kettles. During the Song Dynasty, white tea began being produced in powdered form. After the white tea leaves were steamed and dried, they were ground into a fine powder. This powder was whisked with hot water in wide bowls. This method of preparation produced a tea that was either emerald or iridescent white in color.
The most popular cultivars for white tea include Da Bai, Xiao Bai, Narcissus and Chaicha bushes. Based on the different standards of picking and selecting the white teas, they can be classified into different grades. Following is an overview of white tea grades.
Bai Hao Yinzhen Tea This tea is produced mostly in the Fujian province of China, but is also produced in the Jiangxi Province, the Lin Yun Province and the Yunnan provinces of China, too. It is generally referred to as Silver Needle tea and is considered the highest grade of white tea.
The best Yinzhen white tea is picked between March 15 and April 10. It must be picked when the weather is dry and only unopened and undamaged buds are to be used for the best flavor. This tea is very low in caffeine. It is very pale in color when brewed, and has an extremely mild flavor. In fact, it is so mild that some people find it nearly tasteless. When brewed this tea will look pale yellow and there should be floating white hairs that reflect the light.
Bai Mu Dan Tea This tea is known as Pai Mu Tan, White Peony or White Hairy Monkey Tea. It is grown primarily in the Fujian and Chongqing Provinces of China. This is a lower grade of Yinzhen tea that contains fewer buds and more leaves. It is picked only between March 15 and April 10 and only on days where there is no rain, no frost and no dew on the ground.
The stems must not have any purple buds and leaves must be completely undamaged and buds completely unopened. The best Bai Mu Dan uses the top two leaves and the unopened bud only. Once the leaves are dried they should appear green.
This white tea has a delicate floral fragrance and a mellow, fruity and sweet taste, but brews up slightly stronger than Bai Hao Yinzhen Tea. The liquor is shimmering and clear. The brew will have a very pale green or golden color. This tea is considered to be the second highest grade of white tea.
Shou Mei Tea This tea is primarily grown in the Fujian and Guangxi Provinces of China. It is produced from naturally withered upper leaves and tips of the tea plant. It is plucked later than Bai Mu Dan, resulting in darker leaves. This white tea will have a stronger flavor than many other white teas, somewhat like oolong tea. The flavor is fruity, but can become bitter if over brewed. It is considered a fourth grade tea.
Darjeeling White Tea This tea is grown in the Darjeeling region of India, where it is picked and rolled by hand and then withered in the sun. It must be grown at high altitudes with lots of rain to produce the right flavor. Darjeeling white brews to a very pale color and delicate aroma.
Ceylon White Tea Ceylon tea is produced in Sri Lanka. It is harvested and rolled by hand and the leaves are withered in the sun. It has a very pale color when brewed and has a bit of a honey flavor. Ceylon white is a highly prized Sri Lankan tea.
Within these different categories of white tea, there are some grades based on the quality of leaf used. For example, in white teas in general, the highest grades use a higher proportion of bud to leaf. However, there are no internationally recognized standards for the grading of tea, so it can be quite difficult to determine the highest qualities in white and other varieties of tea.
In general, higher quality tea should be higher priced, but tea that is rare is also higher priced, so that can make it difficult to spot the best teas, too. First pluckings in white tea produce a higher quality of tea, so its wise to shop for tea that is labeled such in order to get the best quality.
Finding the best white teas may be a bit difficult and may cost a bit of money, too. However, the best white teas are so very delicious that they are well worth the extra time and cost.

A Family Christmas Sleigh Ride
A Family Christmas Sleigh Ride
by Stacey Leigh
You see pictures of it in magazines, commercials, flyers, paintings. But do people still really do it? Yes they do. A sleigh ride at Christmas time. It still does exist.
A few years ago a good friend of mine called me up and asked if I would like to bring my family to her family Christmas party. Of course I said yes. She then told me that we would be meeting at a farm to go on a horse drawn sleigh ride. What a great idea! It was one of the best Christmas get togethers we had gone to.
So this year I thought. Hmmmm what could I do for my family Christmas. As most of you know, as the years go by families go their separate ways. Sometimes even at Christmas. So, what we try to do is get all the brothers, sisters, Aunts, Uncles, cousins etc.. together a week or two before Christmas day. What better way to get everyone together, than to go on an old fashion Christmas sleigh ride.
I thought first I will call the oldest person in the family to see how she felt about it. Well let me tell you my 86 year old Grandmother is almost as excited as my 6 year old daughter. She told me that she had always wanted to go on one but had never gotten the chance in all her years. What a great memory this will be for her. Seeing her great grandchildren, grandchildren and daughters all together on something she had always wanted to do. Merry Christmas Gramma!
Now the planning begins. I choose a date, then called a local farmer to book the sleigh ride. You may want to book early so that you can get the date and time you want. I made a list of all my guests. And as Santa would do, I check it twice. I then called everyone. Told them about the family Christmas party and what we would be doing. By the way...Everyone loves the idea. While one the phone with my guests I ask them what they would like to bring. It's a potluck all the way. This way it's makes it a little easier on the host for when we get back to the house. Everything is prepared, (you may have to warm a few things) but you are able to serve the food as soon as everyone gets back from the Christmas sleigh ride.
Once you know what everyone is bringing, make a list of it so that you can make sure you have enough for the amount of people you are having. For instance, I'll be having around 30 people back. So my menu is: Brie-warmed and served with crackers, cheese and kielbasa platter, vegetable tray with dip, cabbage rolls, lasagna, sweet and sour meatballs, cheesy mashed potatoes, fresh rolls, Cesar Salad and some yummy Christmas baking. I will also serve hot apple cyder, have some beer and wine and juice for the kiddies.
Try to do all your shopping a few days before the event. That way everything is fresh, and you still have time to prepare what you're making. Make sure you have all the glasses, plates, cutlery, napkins, bowls etc. that you need. I use paper or plastic so that I'm not spending all my time in the kitchen while everyone his here. It's a quick and easy clean up and I can enjoy some Christmas cheer with my family and friends.
I am really looking forward to my family Christmas sleigh ride this year. And if you decide to try this wonder festive event, I'm sure it will become one of your family favorite traditions as it has ours.
Merry Christmas!

Knowing Your Data Is Safe
Knowing Your Data Is Safe
by John Ugoshowa
All companies of today make great use of the technology available to them and rely on their data. Most businesses however, dont have the budget to invest in network storage or large servers, which is what the bigger companies use to transfer information and create a backup of the information they rely on to carry out their operations.
Smaller businesses have a limited budget. When most encounter a disaster they never seem to recover, normally going out of business. Past disasters such as 9/11 or the dreaded hurricane have showed the importance of backups and disaster planning. Companies that thought things out and protected their data survived these disasters, while those that didnt went out of business.
There are several ways that you can protect your data and keep it safe. One of the most popular and easiest ways to protect your data is with a server. Servers are great for both large and small businesses, and protection the data for your business. They can tend to get expensive though, with the most popular server, Microsoft, starting out around $3,000.
Unlike other options, servers provide you with a safe and secure system to store all of your corporate data. You can set the permission of your files to prevent any unauthorized access, to keep your files safe. When using servers, most of the loss comes from either accidental deletion or employees that are upset with corporate management and decide to get into the server and erase files.
When using a server, your data will be stored in one central location, and not spread around over different computers in your network. Servers are very user friendly, and keep your files neat and tidy - in one location. This way you dont have to go looking all over the place for your data, you can look in the server and find everything you need.
Another way to keep your data safe is with CDs, DVDs, and even external hard drives. If you are using any of these methods, you should always do a backup of your information at the end of every day. With disasters being completely unpredictable, backing things up every day will ensure that you are protected if something should occur.
If you are backing things up to CD or DVD media, you should always put the discs in a safe and secure location, preferably a fireproof safe. This way, if the office should catch on fire, youll have your backup discs protected. You should always add your new backups to the safe at the end of every working day, so youll have them tomorrow if you need them.
You can also store your data and information offsite as well. This is a highly recommended option, as you pay a flat monthly fee and a company stores your information. Most have secure vaults and servers for your data, which ensures protection from unauthorized accidents or hazards. You dont need to worry about your data when using these services, as they will do the protection for you.
No matter which method you use for protecting your information, you should always make sure that you have a plan. Corporate data is very important and essential to success, which is why you should look into immediately if you dont have a plan already. If you know your data is safe and protected from hazards and unauthorized access - youll have the peace of mind in knowing that your data will be there each and every time you need it.

How Simple Coffee Machines Work
How Simple Coffee Machines Work
by Jeffery Dodd
The most common coffee maker is the drip coffee machine. The drip coffee maker is such named because the hot water is made to drip down freely to the coffee beans. Be mindful that the taste of the brewed coffee will rely on the amount of water that you put inside the water bucket. Too much water will dilute the taste of the coffee while too less of it will result to a stronger brew. There are measurements in ounces and milliliter along the water bucket to serve as a guide.
The water inside the water bucket is heated as it passes along a heat-resistant tube. The tube then goes into the drip area and release the heated water that is just below the boiling temperature. The water is heated by a heating element, the sort of resistive heating coil that gives out heat when electricity is passed through it. This is no different from the heating coil of the toaster oven. The heating element has two purposes: it has direct contact with the water inside the water bucket to boil it for a coffee brew and it keeps the coffee warm with the use of the heating pad where the coffee container is rested.
The coffee container or coffee kettle is a heat-resistant glass supported by a durable polyester plastic handle. The glass is transparent so you can easily check if you are running out of coffee brew. The coffee kettle will be kept warm for more than one hour by the heating pad. By this time, its expected that the coffee kettle already needs replenishing. If not, the coffee may be already cold enough to be enjoyed and you have to make a new brew again. The coffee maker is the only coffee machine that has become part of the usual home appliances. Other coffee machines can only be found in coffee shops. Note that other than the coffee maker, however, another coffee machine, the espresso maker, is starting to make its way into household use. With this in mind, it seems that more and more people are getting addicted with coffee. Also, specialty and espresso coffee brews are also becoming popular among coffee lovers around the world.
Today, most models of coffee machines are semi-automatic to automatic. Buttons and switches replaced the manual coffee straining and lever pushing, in case of espresso machines. Also, some are packed with features that will enable one to make any kinds of coffee in mind. Among these special features are built-in coffee bean grinder and frothe maker. With these high-end coffee makers, you can concoct your own coffee recipe.

Registry Cleaners Are A Necessary Utility
Registry Cleaners Are A Necessary Utility
by Arvind Singh
Despite what the experts say, Registry cleaners have their place of importance in cleaning and maintaining the system registry and keeping your computer in good health.
Many so-called experts on the subject will post various tips and advise on multiple forums and Blogs about the system registry and the use of registry cleaners. Some of them also advise against the use of any form of registry cleaner though they will, in the same article, admit that the registry continues to bloat with useless information that may slow down the system in the long run. Their 'long run' is about three months. So then, how do we remover this redundant information or useless entries from the registry to de-bloat it and make it faster and more responsive to the programs installed to run on the system?
The Best Way To Clean The Registry
The answer to this problem is to either use software that can run through the system and clean out any link or file that leads to nowhere or else manually dive into the registry and grope around in the dark without doing anything but damage to the system. Even the experts advise against this because even the so-called gurus of Windows operating system cannot shuffle through the system registry and know exactly what they are doing in there. It will always be a trial and error system.
The registry cleaners such as express registry cleaner, Win registry cleaner, PC Mantra's registry cleaner and many more registry cleaner are special programs that are designed to scan the registry entry for entry and test the links to see if they are actually connect to some program in other parts of the registry and the system. If the links or files fail to produce a link to another program or file they are obviously loose ends and need to be removed from the registry. Because the registries scan will unnecessarily stop, if even for a millionth of a second at these broken links, will delay the process. Just add this one delay, no matter how short, to the hundreds of thousands of useless entries it will encounter, every time it scans the registry, which may be several times a minute.
Where Does This Junk Come From?
These broken links come from programs and viruses that are removed by the uninstall programs and anti virus software. This process of removal leaves traces of the program in the registry and has to be expertly removed with registry cleaners. It is not necessary to scan the registry every second day, however, the registry must be cleaned at least every six months or so. If the registry cleaners are absolutely safe then why will they have a registry backup program built in? There is always a risk involved. Perhaps that is the reason even the best programs have a backup function Such as any Windows Operating system.

How to Revolutionize Your Retirement Thinking
How to Revolutionize Your Retirement Thinking
by Lin Schreiber
As you think about your retirement life, acknowledge that "who you are" is much more important than "what you do". This one shift in your belief structure will enhance your chances of having a happier, healthier retirement.
Hate change? If so, you're in for a rude retirement awakening. Why? Because not since adolescence have you experienced as much change as you will in retirement. Retirement is all about change. Major change. Now before you run screaming from the room, consider this. Change can be a really good thing. And, if you're going to have the rocking retirement of your dreams, then you will need to embrace change even if you can't learn to love it.
You hear the word "retirement" and you imagine the room full of admiring colleagues, the gentle retelling of the famous time you messed up, the president's toast and, finally, the gold watch. Maybe retirement will be the end of your work life. If so, this is the biggest change you'll experience since birth. Your life will no longer be about "What do you do?" And, that's actually a gift. Retirement gives you the opportunity to grow into the best possible YOU. "Who you are" is so much more important than "what you do."
Of course, even if you do have the gold-watch experience, it may not be the end of work as you know it. A 2003 survey conducted for AARP found that many Americans between the ages of 50 and 70 plan to work far into what has traditionally been viewed as their "retirement years." Nearly half of all pre-retirees (45%) expect to continue working into their 70s or later. Of this group, 27% said they would work until they were in the 70s and 18% said "80 or older," "never stop work," or "as long as I am able to work."
But if you're done with work, you will need to fill all those hours with something. And the search for how you will spend your time is a change unto itself. Wilma was an executive secretary for over 40 years. She so dreaded the day she would stop working that she did no planning for the inevitable. Always attentive to her appearance, after retirement she devoted her life to resisting the aging process. She primped and shopped and beauty-parlored her days away. She tried Botox and had a face-lift. She was exploring a breast enhancement when her life radically changed. She was diagnosed with breast cancer!
Ironically, her excursion into cosmetic surgery led to early detection and she was back on her feet in no time. But she took life a lot more seriously and was soon the local coordinator for Y-ME, the national breast cancer organization. Her involvement with the group and other women with the disease became a passion that filled her life with purpose and meaning far beyond that of even her working years.
Another other major retirement change is location. If you're going to move from the four-bedroom house where you raised your children to an apartment in town, then everything is going to be different. Will you be relocating to a warmer climate or moving closer to the grandkids? Even more radical change. And if you're headed for a retirement community, the biggest change of all, because you'll no longer have the healthy advantage of being surrounded by people of all ages.
So how do you embrace change? Begin by changing your attitude from one of hostility to one of acceptance. Delight comes later. Consider your daily routine. If you always take the same route to the grocery store, go a different way. If you put both socks on before your shoes, try a sock, a shoe, a sock, a shoe. Add variety to your favorite activities. Try a new hiking trail or even a new restaurant. Learn to go with the flow. Everything is changing around you all the time. Stop fighting it.
If you really want a change, get a new relationship. If you're single, this might be the perfect time to seek a new mate. But if you're happily married or in partnership, you can still expand your circle of relationships by seeking out new friends. Take the initiative and make the call to the woman you really liked at the last garden club meeting. Or attend that interesting lecture at the club and see who else turns up. Go out of your way to say hello to someone you don't know.
And, by the way, if you're happily married, this retirement thing is going to change everything. There's more than enough truth to the old adage, "I married you for life, but not for lunch." Take a lot of time to talk over the future of your marriage once you're retired long before the golden-watch day arrives. Plan activities you'll do together or make a deal that you'll spend some days apart. But whatever you do, don't let that change sneak up on you.
If you're heading for retirement, remember what Bob Dylan said, "The times they are a changin'." But since there's not much you can do about it, you might as well put a smile on your face, open your arms wide, and welcome newness into your life.
To get started, consider the biggest change you expect in retirement and identify three action steps you can take to help you embrace that change instead of resisting it.

How are Flavored Teas Graded?
How are Flavored Teas Graded?
by Jon M. Stout
If youre new to flavored teas, theres a real treat in store for you. Theres a tea for every taste and with so many blends to choose, from youll likely have difficulty deciding on just one or two.
The best flavored teas are created from blending fine loose tea with natural flavors from fruits, spices, herbs and florals. Artificial flavors should never be used, or they will leave the tea with a fake taste thats easy to recognize.
In order to get the best flavored tea, you must also choose blends made with the best tea. To do this you need to understand how the tea is graded. This is a bit difficult, as there are no international grading standards for tea. Each country grades tea differently, and each variety of tea is graded differently, as well. So, to choose the best flavored tea, its important to know how each variety of tea that is used to make flavored tea is graded. Here are the basics on tea grading.
Black Tea
Black tea is graded primarily based on how its processed. So, while this will tell you the approximate percentage of whole leaves in your tea, and may tell you if it comes from an early or late plucking, its not the total picture when it comes to judging the quality of the tea. Knowing where the tea was grown and how tea is harvested in this part of the world is important, too. In the US, the best black teas are considered whole leaf teas and are designated by the term Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe. You should avoid teas marked dust as these are typically the lowest grades of black tea. Dust grades are usually only used in tea bags.
Green Tea
Green tea is typically graded by the shape of the leaf in China. In other parts of the world, green tea is also usually graded by leaf shape, but different names are used to describe the leaf shapes. Within the leaf shapes, in both China and other countries, youll find grades that further break down the quality of the tea. For example, Chinese green teas labeled for export are labeled by the following leaf styles: Gunpowder, Imperial, Young Hyson, Hyson, Twankay, Hyson Skin or Dust style. Within these categories there are several actual grades.
For instance, Gunpowder tea is graded from Pinhead to Pea Leaf and further subdivided into special, first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and Common Gunpowder. While the leaf shapes dont mean much to us in the US, we do know that the best gunpowder green tea would be graded special and the worst would be graded common.
In addition, tea plucked earliest in the season will have better flavor than tea plucked later in the season. This same fact is true of black and oolong teas. So, if you find a tea labeled first plucked or first flush that is also of a high grade, you know you have a very good tea. However, this designation will not be reflected in the actual grade of the tea. When it comes to choosing green tea, its recommended that you buy from a tea merchant that you know and choose the green tea that he recommends as quality.
Oolong Tea
Oolong tea from China is graded in a much simpler manner than Chinese green teas. They dont designate the tea by the leaf shape. All oolong tea is made from larger leaves, because oolong teas are made from leaves that are grown further down the tea plant. Oolong teas are graded based on how much whole leaf the tea batch contains. The method is easy to follow and understand. The best oolong tea is referred to as Fanciest or Extra Fancy, while the lowest grade of oolong tea is referred to as Common. Since most oolong tea is produced in China, its fairly simple to sort out a good oolong flavored teas produced there.
Oolong tea produced in Taiwan, also known as Formosa oolong, is graded differently, but the grades are still quite easy to understand. Formosa oolong teas are graded according to a standard developed by the Taiwanese government. The best Formosa oolong teas are graded Finest to Choice and Finest. The lowest grades of Formosa oolong are graded Standard. Since most oolong teas are produced in China or Taiwan, knowing the grades from these two countries will cover most of the oolong teas youll run across.
White Tea
White teas grading is simpler, because the time when the tea leaves were plucked is not part of determining the quality. All white tea is from a first plucking, because there is only one plucking of white tea during each growing season. Therefore, choosing a quality white flavored from China simply means choosing one of the two highest grades of white tea, Silver Needles or White Peony. However, these grading standards apply just to Chinese teas; if you choose a Ceylon white flavored tea or a Darjeeling white tea the grades may not be the same. White flavored teas are fairly rare; most of them come from China. As more white flavored teas become available, how they are graded in different countries should become more apparent.
So, to choose a good flavored tea, start by choosing a flavor that appeals to you and then see which varieties of tea are made with this flavor. Then, you can look at the grade of the tea youre selecting and whether or not its flavored with natural flavorings. Now, you have all the information you need to determine if the tea is high quality. Of course, when it comes right down to it, most of us simply buy from a tea shop that we can trust to carry just the very best teas.

Corporate Print Buying Online Solutions
Corporate Print Buying Online Solutions
by Richard Leeds
Compared to traditional methods, using 'simple to use' internet applications can deliver cost savings, reduce human error and enable faster delivery of products and services to all parties in the supply chain. For enterprises, marketing agencies and printing companies who need to streamline the print ordering process, web to print solutions are available on every level. In today's market place, you can choose from fully managed on-line print procurement systems to self hosted solutions that will enable total control of print procurement and application management.
For the corporate print buyer, the first step in moving your print procurement on-line is to list the requirements for your individual business needs. Your existing print suppliers should provide help with identifying these requirements. It is in everyone's interests to end up with a seamless print procurement process.
One of the biggest obstacles to implementation is the printer's desire to lock in a customer to their own on-line system, with the customer having the opposing view. It is vital for the print supplier to recognise this fact. Equally, the customer needs to recognise the value that a totally integrated print ordering solution will provide. The advantage to both is that it can cement a relationship for a period of years, leading to stability for the supplier and enhanced service for the customer.
Another challenge is introduced when more than one print supplier is involved. One answer for the corporate would be then to use a print management company or agency. If you're superhuman and know your printers will collaborate well, you might be able to manage this yourself. The above statements will apply.
Another option is to bring the whole thing in-house. Whether ordering stationery or managing constantly changing marketing collateral, the fundamental benefit is being able to enforce brands and manage document print and distribution. Sometimes, the corporate is the best placed to manage this. Whatever route you choose, successful print ordering implementations are those that involve all people. Those who will be touched by any new processes - internal employees or suppliers - should be part of the planning process. It's better to do this in the beginning when you are listing your requirements. People's fears can be addressed as well as outlining the benefits of change.
What's Possible?
Ordering Versioned Print. Typically, versioned printing is referred to when there is more than one copy of a version of a document or item. But, there may be any number of variations of that document or item. For example, a sales leaflet for a holiday company may have a design which it uses to advertise a range of holidays. However, even though the design and layout is the same, the content could be different for each type of holiday. There may be changes to text, pictures and colours specific for each offer. However, the print quantity for each offer will be more than 1 copy.
Ordering Personalised Print. Personalised printing is referred to when each print copy is unique to the recipient. The individual difference of each one might only be a change of name and mailing address. Or, if it is for 1-to-1 marketing, personalisation could be a complex combination of different text and images. An example might be a postcard advertising a car with an offer personalised to fit the recipients profile.
Printing Versioned and Personalised Items. With the very latest Digital Presses, quality is very close to that of Litho. Using real inks, immediate drying and fast delivery of finished personalised print, it isnt difficult to see why this sector of print is growing. Many organisations are enjoying reduced costs and business growth as a result of implementing targeted print campaigns as part of their overall sales and customer service strategy.
Modern Digital Presses are capable of producing quantities as low as 1. Although technically there isnt an upper limit on quantity, runs up to about 2000 will remain competitively priced. At this point the higher speeds of Litho Presses will make Litho Printing a more cost effective option.
Combining the latest on-line technology with variable print solutions provide print buyers with maximum advantage. Being able to manage marketing campaigns and short run variable printing from the desktop has never been easier. With the right solution, it is possible to order print 24/7 from anywhere in the world, send files direct to press and have jobs delivered within hours.
Stock Management. For printing where larger quantities are needed, e.g. 10s of 1000s, storage, call-off from stock and re-orders need to be managed in an efficient and cost effective way. The best way to achieve this is by implementing a stock management system, with ordering and administration available via the desktop.

Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Portal 10.0 opening the door
Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Portal 10.0 opening the door
by Andrew Karasev
It was not a big secret, that former versions of Business Portal for Great Plains, such as 3.0 and 2.5 had limitations in allowing you, software developer to modify existing business portal applications, such as HR & Employee Self Service, Order Management, Requisition Management. With version 10.0 BP enables you to use Web Services for Microsoft Dynamics GP backoffice integration. In the past, not sure if somebody used this techniques you could create ASPX .Net application in Visual Studio 2005 (C# OR vb.NET), where you interact with GP database and object via eConnect and then integrate this .Net application into MS Dynamics GP Business Portal. This approach would have certain known restrictions, however to some extent it should be considered as doing its job.
Business Portal highlights. For those, who are new to BP implementation:
* Requisition Management. This module is successor of former eRequisition. Requisition Management is now BP module and you have to purchase Business Portal user licenses to get sufficient number of RM users (about $40 per user)
* HR & Employee self service. If you have concerns of cost of mailing payroll checks direct deposit info to your employees BP does the job by secured web lookup via Employee Self Service module
* Notifications. Email notifications were lagging competition in BP 3.0, we need to further research 10.0. Competitors, Ariett for instance were offering notification in HTML format with hyperlink to the Requisition Approval (in the case of ReqNet module) for decision maker, allowing her/him to bypass the necessity to login into ReqNet through Active Directory security realm

Washington Wines: Just East of Greatness
Washington Wines: Just East of Greatness
by Jennifer Jordan
When people think of the wines of the northwest, chances are they ignore Washington and think mainly of Oregon. With its penchant for Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Noir, Oregon has seemingly left Washington state Pinot Poor. Yet, Oregon is not the only state in this upper region capable of making wine, Pinots or otherwise. Washington, over the past decade and a half, has developed into a major wine player and now has more than the ability to serve as Oregon's tag team partner. Move over timber, the northwest has a new baby.
Washington Wine is perhaps the tastiest alliteration in vocabulary today (sorry, pickled peppers, you were a close second). Full of flavor, concentration, and body, Washington Wines are giving everyone a reason to wash down their steak with a bottle of Merlot. Yet, it wasn't always like this.
The first grapes in Washington were planted in the late 1800's. Quite literally late bloomers, they didn't fully develop into greatness until the early 1990's when people began to realize three important things: Washington possessed the same latitude as famous European wine regions, Washington had - on average - two more hours of sunlight a day than California, and Washington contained areas shielded by the Cascade Mountains. This shield left eastern Washington under a geographical umbrella, providing vineyards with nearly ideal climate.
For these reasons, winemakers began to make wine in the eastern portion of the state. In fact, the decision was made to plant eight out of nine viticultural areas in eastern Washington (and four out of five dentists agreed). The sole western wine region is Puget Sound. Laying west of the Cascade Mountains, it spends its day producing grapes that excel in cold climate - such as Madeline Sylvaner, Muller-Thurgua, and Siegerrebe - and its nights singing Celine Dion's "All by Myself."
The eastern viticultural areas include Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley, Red Mountain, Walla Walla, Horse Heaven Hills, Wahluke, Rattlesnake Hills, and Columbia Gorge. These areas are famous most notably for two grapes: Merlot and Cabernet. Labeled as among the best red wines in the world, to some people no Merlots and Cabernets can compare to the ones made in eastern Washington.
On the white side of things, eastern Washington is best known for Chardonnays, Rieslings, and Sauvignon Blancs. However, Chenin Blanc, Fruit Wines, Semillon, and Sparkling Wines are also gaining in popularity.
The conditions of eastern Washington may seem like a winemakers dream, but it is not without its faults. While viticulturists reap the benefits of a regular growing season and grapes that attain perfect ripening, they must also deal with fits of weather. Mother Nature occasionally wrecks havoc on this area with winter freezes, leaving wine growers to label her a "drama queen" and also destroying portions of vineyards. Sometimes, it takes several years to bring a vineyard back to full production.
Taking leads from its southern competition, Washington is in the middle of creating a tourism industry that parallels Napa Valley. However, Washington has found itself tangled in a vine of obstacles. These include the remoteness of many of the vineyards - as many of them are located in the proverbial "middle of nowhere" - and lack of lodging (people may find themselves all wined up with nowhere to go). The lack of transportation hubs is also a factor. Nonetheless, the Washington Wine Tourism Task Force was created in 2000. And so, Operation: Wine and Dine, continues.
If a Napa Valley-like industry is eventually created, it would likely benefit Washington on astounding levels, adding a new element to the economy, creating knowledge of the wine industry, and giving Seattle - the Washington city where tourists tend to flock - some much needed space.needle.
As of right now, Washington will just have to be happy with where it stands, showing the world that Washington mountains aren't the only thing capable of erupting. Already second in varietal wine production in the US, this blossoming industry has over 31,000 acres dedicated to vineyards, and 120,000 grapes harvested each year. Washington also ships its product to over 40 nations, giving us Americans the assurance that at least one of our Washingtons is on good terms with the rest of the world.

Change in Lifestyle and Environment- The Secret to a Happy Retired Life.
Change in Lifestyle and Environment- The Secret to a Happy Retired Life.
by Kanaga Siva
Change is inevitable. That is the law of nature. The natural process of aging is gradual and those who are near and dear to you seldom notice the changes.
The fact remains that you are growing old. With advancing years your lifestyle too should be re-oriented in such a manner that you do not put unnecessary strain on the diminishing reserves of your body.
Moderation in everything that you do is the key-word. You may continue with your activities but do it in moderation. Health plays a major part in the lives of the elderly but unfortunately another aspect that is often overlooked is the "Environment". If due importance is given to this aspect then, many other problems such as Accidents, Loneliness, Health etc. could be easily managed.
Some major environmental problems that should be high priority when you retire are:
1. Finding a suitable place to live after retirement should be priority No.1 Larger cities are good for the younger people but the Retirees should consider moving out to a pollution free town or village in the outskirts of the city.
2. Choose a place not too far from your friends and relatives so that they could be of assistance whenever needed.
3. Ground floor is the best for the elderly. Split level houses should be avoided. If there are steps, good hand rails should be provided.
4. The house should be well ventilated and provide plenty of sunlight.
5. The floors should be well carpeted. Worn out carpets are dangerous since you could trip and fall.
6. Electric wiring should be permanent and all electrical gadgets should be in good working order.
7. Avoid loose and long clothing. Many accidents are caused by tripping and falling. Fractures and injuries during old age could take a longer time to heal and be a source of worry and agony.
8. Clothing should always be appropriate to the season. Inappropriate clothing can lead to health conditions such as, body pain, arthritis, chest cold etc.
9. Entertaining of guests and socializing should also be done in moderation. The consequences of exertion and heavy drinking can be detrimental to your health.
10. Keep your mental faculties active.
One of the best ways to keep yourself well informed, mentally active and to have fun is to spend time on the Internet. The whole wide world is at your finger tips if you can operate the computer. If you are unable to use a computer, it is advisable to take a few lessons that will make you quite proficient in using the computer and the Internet. Sending e-mails to friends, reading the latest international news and visiting interesting websites can be fun. In fact you can even earn an Additional Income. Full details are given in the article, Practical Internet Home Based Business Ideas, for the Young and 50 Plus Entrepreneurs : http://www.business-fromhome.com/article671.html
Old age should not in any way mean that you must give up participating in community activities. It has to be in moderation, that is all. Your lifestyle might have changed but your experience, knowledge and expertise will be needed and much appreciated by your community. Share it with them, enjoy yourself and make life happy and pleasant for the others too.
Change in lifestyle and environment during retirement does have certain emotional under currents such as missing your long time neighbors, some of your old friends and of course some of your favorite haunts. Unfortunately certain changes have to be made in a changing world and changing circumstances.
Make these changes in the right spirit and enjoy your retired life.

LaCartes.com - New UK Dining Guide
by Tom Matthews
Doesnt it irritate you when you just cant find the menu for your favourite takeaway? Or, youre trying to organise a birthday meal for a friend, but the only restaurant listings you can find tell you the address and telephone number at best. http://www.lacartes.com have come to ease the pain. With over 1,000 eating establishments stored online, this is the largest growing restaurant and takeaway website in South London. Up-to-date menus with delivery information, photos, opening hours, average cost per person, parking information and many more details are provided with each listing.
By entering the distance from your postcode, a wide selection of restaurants and takeaways are listed, along with a thumbnail. Alternatively, if you know the name of the restaurant and takeaway you are interested in, you can simply type this in above. A more advanced search allows you to narrow down the results to the type of cuisine you desire, whether the restaurant offers a takeaway service or delivery and the average cost per head.
LaCartes.com want to promote a positive, mutual relationship between customers and restaurant businesses, so they have come up with a clever system whereby feedback and reviews can be submitted for all to view. Not only do restaurants get a rating, but also customers on the relevance and credibility of their comments. You can choose whether to leave a suggestion, which goes directly to the restaurants account, or to post a public review.
Another great feature available on LaCartes.com is the messaging facility. Users can also communicate between one another. This has been integrated into the website so that if a user happens to read a review given by someone else, and has further questions or queries, the reviewer can be contacted directly via their Lacartes account. A message will appear in their inbox.
Regular competitions to win a free evening meal for two at participating restaurants all over South London, have been set up by the website through their strong commitment to restaurant businesses. Entrants can use the normal search criteria of postcode and distance to find a participating restaurant near them, before answering a simple multiple-choice question.
Ding Gao is the brains behind LaCartes.com Having realised that there were no directories with consistent and valuable information that provided accurate coverage, he set to work on a user-friendly solution that made no exceptions or exclusive rights to Michelin-starred establishments; Although we do welcome and promote luxury restaurants, takeaways have been a strong focus. We wanted to offer customers all the information that they would need to make a delivery order, online, from the comfort of their home.

Working With Manufacturers Reps And Succeeding At Trade Shows
Working With Manufacturers Reps And Succeeding At Trade Shows
by George Meszaros
Manufacturer's reps represent importers, manufacturers, exporters, or any combination of the above. The companies they represent pay them a percentage, usually a percentage of the total order. The reps only get paid when they sell. The importance of reps has been diminished by the Internet era. More-and-more businesses are connecting with manufacturers through the Internet, eliminating the need for expensive reps.
Manufacturers reps usually represent many companies. They specialize in industries such as gift, building materials, cosmetics, etc. A good rep can help you identify the hottest products, industry trends, and fashionable companies. Through one rep you may be able to connect with many companies, saving you time and legwork.
Many reps are doing more than selling. Some reps may train you or your employees the use of the products they sell. They can help you become an expert about the product they sell. Treat them as a resource not just another sales person.
Trade shows offer multiple opportunities for you to spot upcoming trends, network with manufacturers, importers, and wholesalers. A trade show can be a great resource for finding the right products for your business. There is a trade show for every industry. If you havent found one for youre your industry, you havent looked hard enough. New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Las Vegas, are among the most popular destinations for trade shows.
The most effective ways to locate the right trade show for you is to check with professional associations, trade publications, and convention centers. Trade shows can connect you with hundreds, or thousands, of potential product sources. Attending a trade show gives you the opportunity to demonstrate you mean business. By being there, you establish yourself as a player in your industry. The attendees commit time and money to participate in trade shows that qualifies them as serious buyers. As you meet with key manufacturers you get a chance to compare prices. Being there in person, you have an opportunity to study product quality.
Be ready for sensory overload. Trade shows are fun, but they can be overwhelming. Prior to the show, make a plan and stick to it. Dont wonder around aimless.

Cost and Storage Benefits to Milling Whole Grains at Home
Cost and Storage Benefits to Milling Whole Grains at Home
by Donna Miller
Tip #1 - "You do WHAT? Why bother?" - Part Two
If you already read Part One of this tip, you may still need more explanation for those curious as to why you're even thinking of or currently milling grains at home.
The following tip to answering the questions of why you bother to mill at home is the benefits of cost and storage. Sure, we can buy 'whole wheat bread' at the store. Sure, 'dead bagged flour' lasts for a good while. Are these reasons to reject home milling all together? Hardly! In fact, look closer and you can see why milling at home is better.
Health benefits aside, which is the MOST vital one in my opinion, storage and cost come up on the convenience end of considering milling at home. The 'whole wheat' loaf of bread we can buy in the store is not only made of old, processed whole wheat, but by the government regulations only has to be at least 51% - or mostly whole wheat - to be labeled as such. I digress, this is also a health reason. The cost of said loaf is approximately $2.29. A home milled, fresh WHOLE GRAIN flour, loaf of bread costs me approximately $.75 to make and that is using all organic (a bit pricier) grains and sugar. Also, I know for certain what is in that loaf!
Storage is another thought. Admittedly, my fresh baked loaf does NOT last as long, not due to shelf-life but that we polish it off so fast (no one in the house can resist slicing into a warm loaf when they smell it), but the grains last for years! Either mites, weevils or simply staleness can cause 'dead bagged flour' to be no good in only a few months. The Lord made a great protection for that grain, the husk. There have been grains found in pyramids that were over 4000 years old but when planted, they grew just as they were created to. How's that for storage? Just keep the grains in a sound container and from getting moist and you can store them for years. I don't think you will be needing them in 4000 years though.

Learn to Freecycle
Learn to Freecycle
by Sarah Russell
Never heard of freecycling? Youre not alone. Freecycling is a recent trend that takes garage sale-ing to the next level. Freecyclers use internet groups to get rid of their unwanted goods and pick up new things, all for free. Currently over one million members in over 50 countries around the world participate in freecycling.
The original Freecycle Network formed in Tucson, Arizona in May 2003 to promote waste reduction and help save the desert landscape from being taken over by landfills. The concept of environmental protection, paired with free stuff, took off and local groups can now be found in almost 3,000 communities around the world. Local groups are run by a volunteer moderator and membership is free and open to individuals and non-profit organizations.
Participating in a freecycle network is simple. The easiest way to join a group is to visit www.freecycle.org and locate a Freecycle Network-affiliated program in your community. If no program exists in your area, check for listings in community newspapers and publications, thrift stores and health food stores. You may find a fledgling network just forming in your community. Still no luck? Consider starting your own!
Once you join a freecycling group, take some time to see how things are done. Log on to the groups website and get a feel for how listings are posted to the site. Some groups have restrictions on what you can and cannot post, but most simply require that all items be completely free, legal and appropriate for all ages. It doesnt matter what you have to offer computer parts, couch, clothing, an old window, broken car, perfume, etc. If you have it and its unwanted, its almost guaranteed that someone else can put it to good use.
If see something youd like to have, send an email response to the member's offer. Depending on the number of members in the group, the giver will probably receive lots of requests. The giver alone decides who gets the item, so its helpful to explain why youd like the item in your email. Dont get too crazy the giver doesnt need to know your life story. Explain your situation in simple terms like, Im a single mom who just moved here after my divorce and I would love to pick up your washing machine tonight. I would really appreciate not having to squeeze in time to go to the laundromat after work.
If youre chosen as the lucky recipient, youll need to arrange a pick-up time for passing on the treasure. If the item is small and not too valuable, the giver may offer to leave it on his/her front porch for pick-up at any time. Bigger ticket items may require more coordination, especially if youll need help moving your prize. Try to be as flexible as possible when making arrangements with the giver after all, youre getting the item for free!
Your local network may also allow wanted posts. If youre looking for something specific, like a 10 gallon aquarium, check with freecycle first. If you see one already listed, great. But if not, post a message describing what youre looking for. Odds are good that someone has one sitting in their basement collecting dust. While each individual network may have slightly different restrictions, most are run similarly. Be sure to check the restrictions before posting an item or responding to an offer dont getting kicked out of the group because you dont know the rules!
Freecycling can get competitive. After all, who wouldnt jump on the chance for a free sofa, TV, computer or other piece of usually expensive merchandise? You wont get every item you request, but chances are, youll be able to score a great deal on something you really need. As an added bonus, youre helping to protect the environment by reducing landfill waste. So hurry up and get started who knows what bargain is out there waiting for you?

Choosing the right Tailgating Grill
Choosing the right Tailgating Grill
by Bryan Kipke
If you are planning a tailgate party you need a few things, good people, good drinks, and a good grill. There are a few things that you need to consider before choosing a grill for your next tailgate party.
Camp Stoves:
Camp Stoves are a great addition to Tailgaters due to its ability to do many different things. First off Camp Stoves are not grills. It is just a way to have an open flame that is regulated and controlled. Camp Stoves are not meant to grill burgers and hotdogs by themselves. There are some accessories that must be bought before this can happen. If you are looking for a grill to make hamburgers, hotdogs, or anything else that can be grilled directly on the grill check out our Table Top Grills, or Portable Grills.
Camp Stoves are meant to be used at if it were an outdoor kitchen stove. You can use pots and pans, skittles, dutch ovens, or anything else that you usually use on a regular stove. Of course you can purchase grill attachments for direct grilling. Camp Stoves can make a simple hamburger and hotdog tailgate into a gourmet tailgate with stews, chili, boiled shrimp, or lobster (yes lobster check out Gillette stadium tailgaters), and anything else you can cook up, imagine, and feast upon.
Table Top Grills:
Tabletop grills are great for a quick set up with a picnic table, setting on the ground, or tailgate. These are small and portable which makes them very diverse and useable. Some are designed more for grilling, some more for using with pots and pans. Either way these are great for setting up quickly, getting the food cooked, cooling off quickly and stowing, so that you can get into your event quickly. They are also for those who are looking for the least amount of cleanup, and work to be done.
Portable Grills:
Portable grills are for the serious tailgater. Portable grills offer a wide range of uses, from skillet cooking to grilling burgers, and hot dogs, to dutch oven use; to anything that can be fried, cooked, grilled, and ate. Portable grills are easy to set up, and easy to take down. Pull the grill out of the trunk or back of the truck, set up quickly, get your food, and get going. Have fun, eat well, and be happy.
Backpack Grills:
Backpack grills are our most highly portable grills we have found. Most are simply single burner stoves meant to head up a pot, pan or skillet. These are great little grills for a quick small tailgate party, or to just pull over on the side of the road on a long trip and have an impromptu tailgate lunch party. You never know when a tailgating mood will hit, and these ultra portable grills will let you tailgate in any spot.
So what we have found is that you have to first decide what kind of party you are going to have. Then you will be able to quickly and easily decide what kind of grill is best for you.
Have fun, Cook Well, and Tailgate the right way

Notebook And WiFi Standards
Notebook And WiFi Standards
by Roberto Sedycias
Every modern notebook is Wi-Fi enabled, allowing internet access from any part of the globe. But while using your wireless notebook, you should be aware of Wi-Fi standards, hotspots, and how to effectively use this technology to make the optimum use of your notebook.
The 802.11g Wi-Fi standard is the latest standard, which your notebook follows when you are online. The Wi-Fi alphabet spaghetti consists of protocols like 802.11, 802.15, 802.16, and 802.20. However, for most notebook users 802.11 would be sufficient with added `a`, `b`, or `g`.
There are protocols like `e`, `h`, `i`, and `n` that are waiting in the wings to make their entry. Nevertheless, as of now, 802.11g is the only protocol that one needs to think when it comes to wireless connectivity. The latest Wi-Fi standard is the 802.11g and offers connection speeds up to 54 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz radio bands, which is five times more than the previous standard 802.11b. It is more stable, more secure, and backward compatible.
Almost all notebooks that are manufactured today are 802.11g Wi-Fi standard ready. This standard is also designed to replace the older Wired Equivalent Privacy or WEP by specifying the Wi-Fi Protected Access or WPA. The WPA will function as an interim solution, until the next standard, the 802.11i network security standard is implemented with a new algorithm called Temporal Key Integrity Protocol, which shall be much more secure and reliable.
However, until the new standard is implemented, the 802.11g is to be followed. There are only two disadvantages with this notebook Wi-Fi standard, that firstly, since it is a new standard, it may not perform as promised; and secondly, with fast emerging latest technologies, it may become obsolete by newer standards before you have the time to benefit from it.
Few tips for a secure Wi-Fi experience:
1 - You should raise the level of your laptop settings. Raise the security settings of software applications like Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer. Update them frequently to ensure latest protection from hackers and viruses. You should keep the encryption feature always on to ensure safest browsing with Wi-Fi.
2 - Along with the software, you should also consider updating to better hardware. Hackers have always found 802.11a and 802.11b very easy to hack. However, 802.11g is harder to crack and you should consider upgrading your hardware to a `g` card. An 802.11g is backward compatible with IEEE 802.11b, thus 802.11g can leverage the widespread, international adoption of IEEE 802.11b in products from laptops to PDAs. A personal firewall, such as ZoneAlarm or BlackICE can significantly add up to the security level of your notebook.
3 - Whenever you are using your notebook at a Wi-Fi hotspot, make it a point not to send data. While you are surfing, do not type your credit-card number, expiration date, passwords, bank account numbers, etc. Sensitive data are the goldmines for hackers, and they will swipe your bank account before you can finish saying, ` I have been a victim of online identity theft!`
4 - Consider not staying online while working. If the risks outweigh the benefits, then it would be better to stay offline; at least until the new 802.11i standard is not implemented. Even then, the security can be breached, albeit with difficulty. If you do not need Wi-Fi to implement your work, then stay switched off. If you need the Wi-Fi just to send and receive files, then stay connected for only that period. Rest of the time, stay offline.
Precautions to take at a public Wi-Fi hotspot:
Whenever you are in public domain, you need to take precautions, as it is free for all. The Wi-Fi hotspots are available to any and every person, and anybody can be connected. Besides online thefts, there is also the risk of offline thefts.
While in a public hotspot, do not be so absorbed with your notebook, that you fail to notice the people around you. There are persons who are in the business of stealing notebooks, from public hotspots. And they do not operate as individuals but as a gang.
Also, while you are online at a public hotspot, follow simple rules like encrypting files before transferring or emailing them; making sure you are connected to a legitimate access point; and file sharing is turned off. Basic precautions like password protecting your notebook, updating your system regularly, and using anti-virus software should be strictly followed. For further online security, consider using a personal firewall, a virtual private network (VPN), and web-based email with secure http (https).
Having a good Wi-Fi experience directly translates into a satisfying Internet experience. With the above suggestions being implemented, you are guaranteed to have a pleasant online time with your notebook.

How Politics Can Teach the Sandwich Generation a Lesson in Communication
How Politics Can Teach the Sandwich Generation a Lesson in Communication
by Phyllis Goldberg, Ph.D.
Senator John Kerry said his remark, "If you don't study hard you get stuck in Iraq," was a joke gone awry. President George W. Bush was critical, commenting to the Associated Press that "it didn't sound like a joke to me. More important, it didn't sound like a joke to the troops." What did you think?
With the election right around the corner, the political stakes are high. Some bloggers and journalists in the Conservative camp are focused on Senator John Kerry's "campaign gaffe." Others on the Democratic team view this fixation as a GOP talking point - a smoke screen for President Bush's "inappropriately conducted war."
Our concern is more personal what lessons can you, the Sandwich Generation, learn about your own communication with your emerging adult children and aging parents?
We all know that words can hurt. An offhand remark or slip of the tongue can be emotionally damaging. If the World War II motto, "loose lips sink ships," is leaving you with what has been termed the "foot-in-mouth syndrome," add the following tips to your communication toolbox.
1. When addressing a sensitive issue, state a specific goal you want to accomplish. Be direct and clear in what you say. Dont accuse or blame your listener's character or ideas.
2. As body language and tone of voice count, assume a non-threatening stance and monitor your negative emotions. Be slow to complain or criticize. Take some responsibility by using "I-focused" statements to clarify that this is your personal opinion.
3. Listen closely without planning your response. Be empathic to the speaker's position and ask questions for clearer understanding. Try to put yourself in the other's shoes and look at the issue from that vantage point.
4. In a conflict, count to 10 before responding. Or, instead of escalating, walk away. Take time to calm down and agree to return to the discussion later and work out a solution.
5. Sometimes you do know what's best. Take a stand and hold your ground when the safety or well being of your children or parents is at stake. Be patient as they grow to appreciate your position, even if its unpopular at the time.
If political history is prologue, it seems like it is human nature to defend yourself initially. Instead of fighting back, take some time to reflect. Discuss your feelings with your family in flux about an issue that requires an apology. Use this as an opportunity - turn negative feelings into more positive ones, teach a life lesson, form a deeper connection.

Mortgage Payments Vs Rent Payments
Mortgage Payments Vs Rent Payments
by Max Hunter
There is an age-old debate on whether or not it makes more sense for people to rent or buy. Though it is hard to really understand why there is a debate at all. You will definitely hear arguments from both camps that appear logical but if you do a little digging you may find that some of the arguments are thin at best.
The simple fact of the matter is you are always better off making a mortgage payment over a rent payment if you can afford to do so. It is not uncommon for mortgage payments to actually be lower than many rent payments are. So the key is to understand an important, fundamental difference between making a rent payment and making a mortgage payment.
Rent payments are made on a monthly basis for the most part. That money gives you the right to live in the house or apartment for the specified period of time, typically one month. You receive no other tangible benefits from that rent payment. It does not improve your credit score, it does not produce equity, it simply gives you the ability to live in the residence.
A mortgage payment, first and foremost, also gives you the ability to remain in the residence, however, it does much more than just that. First, the mortgage payment helps you build equity in your home. Equity is the difference between what you owe on the property and what the property is worth. That equity can be used for many things including debt consolidation, home improvements, extra funds, etc. Equity becomes a powerful tool in your overall financial plan.
Mortgage payments also include interest payments which can be tax deductible, helping your overall bottom line at the end of the year. Rent is not tax deductible in most cases. Your mortgage payments will also help improve your credit score if you continue to make payments on time. Mortgage payments are tracked if your lender reports the loan, which most lenders typically do. Your overall financial outlook can improve dramatically with an increased credit score resulting from on-time mortgage payments.
Some will argue that you are tied down to a home if you buy it, while renting gives you more flexibility. Though it is important to remember that if you rent a residence you are typically obligated for a specific period of time, typically a year. If you own a home, however, you are able to sell and relocate any time you wish, or you can rent the residence and relocate any time you wish. This is an important and fundamental difference between the two. It is true, however, that how quickly you are able to sell your home will depend on the location, its value, its condition and the market at the time of the sale. You do have the flexibility, however, to sell anytime you find a willing and able buyer.
One time where renting may seem like a more logical choice than buying is if you are going to live in a particular area for only a short period of time. In order to determine if it makes sense to rent or buy in this type of situation you really need to analyze your overall financial plans. You need to get a full understanding of any and all costs associated with you buying the home, the likelihood you would be able to sell it or rent it when you were relocating from the area, etc. For some, even in a short term situation the better financial decision may be buying, especially if they are able to rent it and build equity on their tenant. This may, however, impede them buying a second home, though if they have adequate credit and income they may not have any problem buying the second residence as well.
It is difficult to come up with a scenario that makes renting the clear cut right decision. It seems in most situations buying, if an option for you is the better decision financially. Though consulting with a mortgage professional is the only real way to help determine these things as they can give you a clear understanding of what is and what is not possible for you. Your financial advisor can also assist you in making this decision.
Owning your own home has many non-financial benefits as well, however, only you can evaluate those. You know what is and what is not important for you. You know what obligations you are comfortable having and which you are not. The key is to evaluate your personal situation rather than listen to those who are convinced that one or the other is right for you.

Choosing the Right Nursing Home
Choosing the Right Nursing Home
by John dela Cruz
Selecting a Home Care Facility entails more than just scanning directories and local advertising media. An accurate assessment of the living conditions of an assisted living facility requires a well contemplated and painstaking approach that goes beyond services and amenities.
Your selection method can be likened to your experience when you first shopped for a home. Were not suggesting that you actually pore over the entire architectural layout of a nursing home, but rather to treat this decision making process with the same zeal and energy.
Given the number of available nursing homes in each community, the choices can go on and on. Realizing the number of factors to consider, choosing a nursing home can be a daunting task indeed. If youre totally at a loss as to where or how to begin your search, do consider the following tips.
Survey the Community
It isnt just all about analyzing the elements within the confines of a nursing home. Learn to observe and study the neighborhood. Knowing that your loved one resides in a calm and tranquil environment will definitely give you peace of mind.
Check the Living Conditions
Though it would be tough to find a facility that would match the comforts of your own home, take time to scan through the items in the following checklist which at times are surprisingly overlooked:
 Laundry Service
 Bathroom Sanitation
 Kitchen Service
 Bedroom Conditions
 Leisure and Entertainment
 Transportation Service
Meet the Staff
Make sure to acquaint yourself with the caregivers and other personnel within facility. It would be a good idea to keep the communication lines open.
Ask Their Opinion
More often than not, its you who would have to decide as to where your aging loved ones would be spending their twilight years. However, try to involve them by soliciting their opinion during the evaluation process. It would be wise to see things from their perspective as well.

Offsite Backup Advantages
Offsite Backup Advantages
by John Ugoshowa
Creating backups of your data and files is a very important way of staying on top of disaster and missing data. Both small and large businesses, including individuals, always look towards a backup of information to keep them going in the face of disaster. Even though backups are a great way to keep your data safe and protected, there are some flaws with the traditional methods.
When you create backups of your data, you must store them somewhere where they cant be damaged or someone else can access them. For businesses, offsite backup is a well known and popular way to backup files. It offers you several different advantages when compared to other ways, such as CD, DVD, external hard drives, and even servers. One of the biggest advantages to offsite backup is the fact that the backups arent stored in your office or business.
Offsite backup companies store your data in state of the art safes, to protect them against fire, flood, and even prying eyes. This can be extremely beneficial if unexpected things have a habit of occurring around your office.
Another great thing about offsite backups are the fact that they can be used as stores for your data. You wont need to rely on online space, as you can easily go to the company who is storing your data and go through it anytime you wish. You can also use online space with most companies as well. You simply upload your data to their online storage area, then go back anytime you wish and view it. This is a very handy feature, similar to a hosting company.
Another benefit of offsite backup is the fact that your data will always be protected, and you wont have to use CD or DVDs to do it. CD and DVD storage is great for individuals, although there will be quite a bit of them for most businesses. This can get somewhat costly, but more importantly, it will use a lot of space to store the backup files. They can also become damaged or lost, unlike offsite backup storage.
Offsite storage is also great if your business is in a bad area. If Mother Nature has a habit of bashing your area with floods, fires, or hurricanes, you should look into offsite backup storage immediately. They have ways to protect your information from harm, including anything Mother Nature can dish out. There is no need to worry about natural disasters, system failures, hard drive crashes, or data failure with offsite backup storage.
Even though you may not realize it, the data will be available anytime you need it. Online backup services are available anytime, day or night, and can be accessed anywhere you are. Most are easy to set up, and offers you very impressive security measures. They are also fast and very efficient, which is great for those who need to access their files immediately.
When it comes to offsite backup, you can store virtually any file you need to, such as text files, e-books, contact record, pictures, music, and anything else you can think of. The storage for online backups are virtually endless, capable of storing everything you need.
All in all, offsite backup storage is ideal for any business or corporation. You can store your data with an online offsite backup, or choose to do it physically in an offsite safe. The choice is entirely up to you. No matter which method of offsite backup you choose - your data will always be protected, and best of all - it will always be there anytime you need it.

Diaper Bags - Convenience and Fashion
Diaper Bags - Convenience and Fashion
by Mike Jennings
Carrying a diaper bag is a necessity if you are a parent on the go. The baby diaper takes up very little space, however it is the bottles, wipes, toys, change of clothing etc. that can be a big hassle to lug around all day. We all have to use diapers bags if we travel with our babies, but they don't have to be overwhelming and ugly. We don't have to carry those heavy plastic bags around anymore if we don't want to. We have fashionable options that make using them a great deal easier.
You can get the convenience of a diaper bag and make a fashion statement at the same time. Designer diaper bags are becoming the biggest fashion statement for new parents to make. It's not only celebrities and rich people who use these anymore because designer diaper bags have gotten to be much more cost effective. You can find these designer diaper bags in many different styles, colors, fabrics and designs. My favorite right now is the sling bag, which looks like a modern sling back pack.
I know that when you are caring for a baby or two, that it is hard to find the time and the motivation to always look smart. You spend so much time on the children with the constant attention they need for feeding, changing and amusing, that you take a second place to it all. However, it is important to give yourself some time to in your busy day to be able to care for your self. While a designer diaper bag may seem like a luxury, it is one small way that you can pamper yourself so that when you are out you can feel smarter with a designer accessory.
I personally love the new back pack diaper bags because it provides me with more freedom for my arms. I am finding that fewer parents are struggling to hold the baby; push the stroller, carry the diaper bag, and heaven forbid the cell phone starts ringing. These new back pack diaper bags make it far easier for parents to multi task, and it is causing less stress for the traveling parent. They work wonders if you are traveling by bus. They allow parents to take many more calming breaths, which we all need; especially since it seems that whenever you are trying to multi task with your baby in your hands, this is the moment when your baby starts to cry. The back pack diaper bag was a life saver to me, and can be one for you too.

Human Holon Communications within a High-Mix, Low-Volume Holonic Manufacturing System
Human Holon Communications within a High-Mix, Low-Volume Holonic Manufacturing System
by Michael Mahoney
Organizational communication is fundamental to high-mix manufacturing success. At the human holon level, communications are typically of the form: request, reply and inform. To have dialog amongst collaborative holons, human-system interfaces are required. Interface applications within a cooperative holonic domain are relatively simple, and decision support criteria will look like it comes from a single application.
Cooperative domains are highly distributed, autonomous and cooperative. An example of a strong heterarchy is real-time Internet chat amongst engineers. Heterarchical control is most effectively initiated by a triggering mechanism, e.g., machine breakdown, stockout, etc. for a manufacturing production environment. All users see the same state real time. Triggering is initiated after a disturbance or disruption occurs and the response strategy is communication to the entity(ies) capable of mitigating the problem quickly. Decision support would be provided to the holon responding. Decision support is comprised of heuristics to aid in the decision-taking process a pseudo expert system. The critical importance of mobilizing heterarchy cannot be overstated. To ensure efficiency is maintained, heterarchy increasingly trumps hierarchy as complexity and rate of change increase.
The power of heterarchy can be analogized to the behaviors of the ant kingdom. Simple creatures following simple rules, each one acting on local information. This heterarchical behavior forms the foundation of what is called swarm intelligence, i.e., decentralized self-organizing systems. No centralized control structure dictates how individual holons should behave. The collective behaviors of holons interacting locally cause coherent global benefits to emerge. The triggers and response tactics incorporated act to preserve advice given globally; for example, a production plan.
Consider a situation where a disturbance occurs at a process step. This trigger will cause the local holon experiencing the disruption to inform the production manager holon. The production manager holon will ask for a time estimate to recover from the disruption. If production was suspended, the local holon would have triggered the engineering holon as well as the production manager holon that production was suspended. If the due date cannot be met, the production manager holon will contact customer order service and customer order service may relax the due date or contact the customer directly. The production manager holon may minimally modify the current schedule to minimize the disturbances impact on orders in queue yet to be produced.
The rules-of-the-game are embedded in canons which are comprised of heuristics. Canons contain expert advice that facilitates some of the following characteristics for the holons with which they are associated; self organization, system optimization, cooperation, intelligence, forecasting and even considerateness.
Although there is a plethora of information available about automation exhibiting holonic behavior and test cases abound, this is is not a necessary requirement.

Search Engine Rank: Google Page Rank Misconceptions - 2
Search Engine Rank: Google Page Rank Misconceptions - 2
by Peter Nisbet
Improved search engine rank is difficult enough to obtain without you having to trawl through all that has been written about Google Page Rank in order to find the truth. There are many misconceptions about Page Rank, and Part 2 of this article dispels the most common of them, the first being that Yahoo and MSN have their own version.
In fact this is not so. Yahoo had a beta version of a Web Rank visible for a while, ranking complete websites, but it is now offline. MSN has no equivalent as far I can ascertain. The term PageRank is a trade mark of Google, which is why I refer to it as Page Rank and not PageRank. A small difference, but a significant one.
If you are one of those that believe that the more links you can get to your website the better, then you are wrong. When Google started the Page Rank frenzy by putting that little green bar on their toolbar, they didnt realize the consequences of what they were doing. People fought to get as many links to their website as possible, irrespective of the nature of the websites to which they were linking.
That is misconception Number 2. You do not link to websites, you link to web pages, or should I say, you get links back from web pages, not websites. It is, after all, the link back that counts isnt it? The link away from your site doesnt count. Wrong! Misconception Number 3. The link to your web page counts no more than the link away from your web page. In fact, it could count less. You could lose out in the reciprocal linking stakes if your web page is worth more than the other persons.
Lets dispel that misconception right now. When you receive a link from a web page (not web site) you get a proportion of the Google Page Rank of that web page that depends on the total number of links leaving that page. When you provide a link to another web page, you give away a proportion of your Page Rank that depends on the number of other links leaving your web page.
The Page Rank of the website you get a link from is irrelevant, since that is generally the rank of the Home Page. You will likely find that all these great links you think you have from PR 7 or 8 websites are from a links page that has a PR of ZERO! So you get zilch for the deal. If you are providing them with a link from a page on your site even of PR 1, then you lose! Most people fail to understand that.
No incoming link can have a negative effect on your PR. It can have a zero effect, but not negative. However, if you have an incoming link with zero effect, and an outgoing reciprocal link with a positive effect to the target page, then you will effectively lose PR through the deal. Every web page starts with a PR of 1, and so has that single PR to share amongst other pages to which it is linked. The more incoming links it has, the higher PR it can have to share out.
If your page has a PR of 4 and has three links leaving it, each gets twice the number of PR votes than if 6 links leave it. Your page with a PR of 4 has to get a similar number of PR votes incoming as it gives away to retain its PR. In simple terms, if your PR 4 page is getting links from a PR 8 page with 20 links leaving it, you lose out big time! Its simple maths.
No page ever gives away all of its PR. There is a factor in Googles calculation that reduces this to below 100% of the total PR of any page. However, that is roughly how it works. You dont get a proportion of the whole website ranking; you only get part of the ranking of the page on which your link is placed. Since most Links Pages tend to be full of other outgoing links, then you wont get much, and will likely get zero.
That is why automated reciprocal linking software is often a waste of time. If you want to make the best of linking arrangements, then agree with the other webmaster that you will provide each other with a link from equally ranked pages. That way both of you will gain, and neither loses. Some software allows you to make these arrangements.
Another misconception is that only links from external web pages count. In fact, links between your own web pages can be arranged to provide one page with most of the page rank available. Every page has a start PR of 1, so the more pages you have on your site then the more PR you have to play with and distribute to pages on your website of your choice.
Search engine rank can be improved by intelligent use of links, both external and internal, but Google Page Rank does not have the profound effect on your search engine listing that many have led you to believe. Good onsite SEO usually wins so keep that in mind when designing your website.

How To Register A Domain Name
How To Register A Domain Name
by George Meszaros
You may be wondering if you should get a .com, .net, .info, or .whatever kind of domain. So many different kinds of domain extensions to choose from, and so little time. If you are registering a domain name for a for profit business, you should always register a .com domain. From a brand perspective, there is no better domain than a .com domain. Most people associate business domains with the .com extension just like they associate school domains with the .edu extension.
It may not make any difference in the beginning, but the more successful you become the more it could hurt you. Lets say you develop a new product idea and the .com domain name you want to call it is not available, so you register the .net domain instead. Sounds harmless enough. Now, lets fast-forward a couple of years. You have spent time and money to develop your brand and people are searching for your product online with the .com extension simply because they expect you to own the domain with the .com extension.
Another reason to shy away from other than .com domain names is that someone may already have copyright protection for the domain name you want to register. Look further if the .com domain you desire is not available. Even if you dont find the exact domain you initially searched for, you may find one that is better than your original idea.
Whenever the domain you desire is not available through the registrar, you can try purchasing it from the registered owner. Unfortunately, many people register domain names to take advantage of others. The common name for such a person is domain squatter. I only recommend buying domain names from domain squatters if you have money to burn. The more they know you want it, the worse your chances of getting a good deal.
In other situations, someone may have good reason to own your desired domain name. It is unlikely that youll be able to buy the domain name from a thriving online business. It is possible that you run across a Web site with the perfect domain name for your business.

Protecting Blueprints at the Construction Site
Protecting Blueprints at the Construction Site
by Brad Barrett
Blueprints are a critical part of any construction job, whether the job is big or small. In all cases, the ubiquitous blueprint is always in danger of being torn, damage, stained, or just worn out.
Contractors typically carry blueprints as rolled documents which are referenced repeated times during a work day at the construction site. The potential dangers for blueprints include general wear and tear, weather, coffee spills, burns from cigarette ashes, and dirt and grime. The contractor often travels from site to site with the rolled blueprints tossed causally in the truck. If you have ever been to a construction site, you know that they are a chaotic and dirty place; this makes protecting blueprints at a construction site a full-time job. Thus, the life of a blueprint at the construction is short.
Luckily new options now exist in the form of storing blueprints in plastic covers. These covers are proving to be a good method to protect files from coffee spills, weather, or dirt. They can also protect the documents from cigarette ashes. Plastic covers can provide good protection for blueprints that need to be carried from site to site; in effect, the blueprints become more durable and longer lived.
Transporting blueprints in carriers is becoming a popular option since blueprints can be transported neatly, safely and conveniently. Carrier systems eliminate curl that makes rolled documents hard to handle. Carriers are engineered from durable, heavy duty materials designed to stand up to harsh weather and construction environments. Some of the carrier systems come with extra pockets and zipper closures, while others are compatible with all file cabinets back at the office.
For the same reason, laminated files are becoming more popular for engineers, construction workers, and architects in the field. Large document lamination is affordable and provides for the ultimate safety of a document, although the weight of the document is more than doubled. Long term storage of laminated documents can prove problematic since they are inflexible and can get permanently creased.

Try These Scrabble House Rules
Try These Scrabble House Rules
by Emma Snow
Any family with a Scrabble tradition has doubtless developed their own set of house rules, particularly if that household includes children requiring modifications. House rules can make play more interesting and lively, place an emphasis on learning rather than competition, or simply be used to speed the game up. Below, are some common house rules Ive heard about or used at home. Each rule adds its own twist to the game. I welcome you to try them!
Eternal Bonus Squares: I was raised on this one. What was my disappointment when I found out at a friends house that the rules killed the efficacy of the bonus square once it was covered! By deeming them eternal, meaning they remain in force and count every time the word is added to, each move becomes more rewarding than the first. Scores soar into the hundreds. Egos inflate. The skillful player must try to make words that cant be added to, at least when covering a bonus square.
Blank Tile Substitution: This rule keeps the blank tiles in constant circulation. For instance, if someone uses a blank on the board in place of a T, and you later wind up with a T on your rack, you can substitute the real letter and re-use the blank. This is really nice toward the end of the game when everyone is down to the nubs, letter-wise.
Allowable Dictionary Use/Broadening the Word Base: To give the game more educational significance, weve sometimes allowed players to browse the dictionary when it wasnt their turns. This rule is especially helpful for children or beginners, whose vocabulary base may still be limited. If playing against more seasoned opponents, the use of a dictionary, along with offering free challenges, can even the playing field. When my sister and I were learning German we purchased a German Scrabble set and mixed it in with the English letters. Words from either language were allowed. Since letters have varying degrees of usage in different languages the point value and letter distribution will vary among foreign sets. This made our game even more interesting. Scrabble sets can be purchased on the internet in many different languages.
Free Trades: Allowing free trades of the following combinations reduces the element of luck, and can make the game more fun.
Two pair
Three of the same letter
Six vowels
Six consonants
Of course, the blank tile can not be used to substitute for any letter in a trade. Y can be used as a vowel or a consonant, to the players advantage. Only one trade is allowed per turn, although your tiles may be rejected if it restores one of the above conditions to your rack.
Take Two: This last suggestion isnt so much a house rule, but an alternative game which can be played using Scrabble tiles. The number of players is unlimited, and can be practiced alone, or played in a large group. The more players, the faster the game will go. To play, turn all the tiles face down in the middle of the table. Each player draws seven tiles, turning them over in front of him or her. Laying letters in words across and down, players attempt to connect all their letters. The first player to do so calls out, Take two! and everyone draws two more tiles. The game continues until the tiles run out. The winner is the first player to use all his of her tiles. The value of unused tiles is counted and a negative score is recorded. (The winner scores a perfect zero.) This game may be played in successive rounds if a longer version is desired.

Selling Your House? Simple Gardening Tasks Can Help
Selling Your House? Simple Gardening Tasks Can Help
by Jonni Good
When we think about getting a house ready to sell, we often focus on the structure itself. We ask ourselves if the walls need painting, should the carpets be cleaned or replaced, do any of the plumbing fixtures need to be repaired, etc. However, the item that is seen first, by every potential buyer that drives by your house, is your front lawn and garden. Spending some extra time on your landscaping before you list your house with a real estate agent can make a big difference in how long it takes a house to sell.
Think of it this way - would you feel comfortable with the idea of seeing a doctor if all the plants in his waiting room were dead? It sets up some negative emotions, doesn't it? The same thing happens when people drive by a house that is surrounded by dying, weedy grass, overgrown bushes, and cracked sidewalks. Since the impression is on a purely emotional level, it may be difficult for your buyers to overcome.
There's a good example of this problem right now, in my neighborhood. Although houses in my city are selling ast this summer, and they don't stay on the multiple listing service for very long, a 'For Sale by Owner' sign has been in the window of a house down the street for months. The owner lives out of town, and probably purchased the house as a rental. Now that home prices are higher, he's ready to sell, but he can't take care of the yard himself because he lives too far away. He did recently hire someone to cut down the overgrown grass, but I suspect he did so only in response to a complaint from the city authorities.
This attitude on the part of the seller reminds me of that ancient saying "penny-wise, pound foolish".
Fortunately, it doesn't take a whole lot of money to get most yards looking good, and it can make a huge difference in the curb appeal of your house. It does, however, take time - especially if the grass has been neglected for too long. Some regular watering might revive it, but if things have gone too far, you may need to reseed the grass and start over. This might also be true in the back yard, if a large puppy or a team of budding football stars has worn ruts in the grass. The most important thing for the grass is to get it green again, and keep it mowed. If dandelions have taken over, a neighborhood kid might be willing to pull them out, if the price is right.
If bushes along your fence are badly overgrown, they may need a hard pruning. Some ornamental shrubs and small trees can be pruned at almost any time, but others must be approached with more caution. To see exactly how and when your shrubbery can be pruned, do a Google search for the particular type of plant, or find a good book on pruning at your local library. Overgrown Arborvitae growing near the house may need to be removed, as would any other fast-growing shrub that refuses to stay within its allotted space, and which would be nothing but bare sticks if it you cut it back.
If you do need to remove overgrown or dying foundation plantings, they can be replaced with fast-growing annuals or perennials. First dig the soil as deep as you can and add compost and plant food to improve the soil's fertility. Then ask your local nursery for suggestions - they'll be able to show you which plants will grow the fastest and fill in the empty space. If you put out a drip hose and attach a timer, you won't need to do much more than pull an occasional weed to keep it looking nice.
A friend of mine recently sold her house, which was surrounded by a beautiful cottage garden that took her years to build. She knew that most people don't have time to care for so many different plants, and would prefer to simply water and mow the grass - so she made sure to list her house when her garden was at its peak. Even if her buyer has to remove all those flowers because he can't take proper care of them, they still helped to create a positive impression with all that color. Her home, surrounded by masses of color, was on the market for only a few weeks.
You can easily add a few spots of color to your yard without planting a perennial border of creating a cottage garden. One exceptionally easy trick is to buy a large planter that matches the color of your house, fill it with one small shrub from the nursery surrounded by fast-growing annuals, and place it just beside your front door. It doesn't take much time, but it can add that little touch of life that makes your house feel more like "home" to your potential buyers.

Discover The FOUR Essential Questions You Must Ask While Shopping For A Mortgage
Discover The FOUR Essential Questions You Must Ask While Shopping For A Mortgage
by Ed Bisquera
How can you be sure youve got the right mortgage broker as you shop around?
First: make sure you are working with an experienced, professional loan officer. The largest financial transaction of your life is far too important to place into the hands of someone who is not capable of advising you properly and troubleshooting the issues that may arise along the way. But how can you tell?
Here are 4 simple questions your lender ABSOLUTELY must be able to answer correctly. If they dont have the answersRUNDONT WALK RUNTO A LENDER THAT DOES!
1. What are mortgage interest rates based on?
(The only correct answer is Mortgage Backed Securities or Mortgage Bonds, NOT the 10-year Treasury Note. While the 10-year Treasury Note sometimes trends in the same direction as Mortgage Bonds, it is not unusual to see them move in completely opposite directions. DO NOT work with a lender who has their eyes on the wrong indicators.)
2. What is the next Economic Report or event that could cause interest rate movement?
(A professional lender will have this at their fingertips. For an up-to-date calendar of weekly economic reports and events that may cause rates to fluctuate, visit www.pdxloan.com/economicreport/ and join the weekly distribution list for MMG Weekly this is a copy of a weekly newsletter on current Economic Reports.)
3. When Bernanke and the Fed change rates, what does this mean and what impact does this have on mortgage interest rates?
(The answer may surprise you. When the Fed makes a move, they can change a rate called the Fed Funds Rate or Discount Rate. These are both very shortterm rates that impact credit cards, Home Equity credit lines, auto loans and the like. On the day of the Fed move, Mortgage rates most often will actually move in the opposite direction as the Fed change. This is due to the dynamics within the fi nancial markets in response to infl ation. For more information and explanation visit Google or research online further).
4. Do you have access to live, real time, mortgage bond quotes?
(If a lender cannot explain how Mortgage Bonds and interest rates are moving in real time and warn you in advance of a costly intra-dayprice change, you are talking with someone who is still reading yesterdays newspaper, and probably not a professional with whom to entrust your home mortgage financing. Would you work with a stockbroker who is only able to grab yesterdays paper to tell you how a stock traded yesterday, but had no idea what the movement looks like at the present time and what market conditions could cause changes in the near future? No way!)
Be smart... Ask questions Get answers!
More than likely, this is one of the largest and most important financial transactions you will ever make. You might do this only four or five times in your entire life but a reputable experienced mortgage broker does this every single day. Its your home and your future. Choose someone who makes it their profession and passion, ready to work for your best interest.
Once you are satisfied that you are working with a top-quality professional mortgage advisor, you'll want to continue with the 5 rules and secrets you must know to shop for a home mortgage loan effectively. Visit http://www.PDXLoan.com for a complete report on the 5 mortgage shopping secrets.

Drumsticks Along The Tabletop
Drumsticks Along The Tabletop
by James L. Snyder
Finally, the house was quiet and I was relaxing in my favorite recliner musing on the activities of the day. Just a few hours previous, the house was clamoring with the noise of my family celebrating another Thanksgiving Day together. My wife is in the kitchen putting the final touches on the cleanup activity that finished a few moments ago.
Everyone has different ideas about Thanksgiving. My wife, for example, enjoys all of the planning that goes into this special day. I, on the other hand, enjoy the memories.
Reflecting on the day, my mind focused on a curious thought. What was that first Thanksgiving all about? How did it all come to be?
It is clear to me that our Pilgrim Fathers came up with the idea of a Thanksgiving feast. The Pilgrim Mothers were too busy doing the wash and caring for the children to think of any more work.
I can imagine the Pilgrim Fathers sitting around waiting for someone to invent television so they could all watch a football game when someone had an idea. Most ideas are born in the midst of great boredom, which is why so many of them are...well...stupid.
"There's nothing to do," one really bored Pilgrim Father said. "Let's get together and have a feast." Because nothing else was happening, the other Pilgrim Fathers got excited about this idea. The Pilgrim Mothers, however, had some different thoughts about this crazy feast idea.
The Pilgrim Mothers wanted a Tupperware party, but since it was not yet a two-party system, they could only do one party. The Pilgrim Fathers won this one.
However, like the good Puritan wives they were, they humored their husbands and began preparations for the first Thanksgiving feast.
What the Pilgrim Mothers did not count on was company for dinner. After all, they were thousands of miles from their nearest relatives with a big ocean between them.
They assumed, and rightly so, they were safe from the intrusion of company on what would be the heaviest workday for the kitchen crew.
Have you ever noticed that when you are planning a feast of some kind, relatives who never bother you the rest of the year (something to be thankful for) seem to gravitate to your gravy bowl?
There is nothing like unexpected company to put pizzazz in a Thanksgiving celebration. And who wants pizza for Thanksgiving when there is so much turkey?
Imagine the Pilgrim Mother's surprise when the Pilgrim Fathers told them (probably on Thanksgiving morning) that they had invited guests for the feast.
I can imagine some ears were roasted that first Thanksgiving Day. The Pilgrim Fathers braved through the stinging rebukes from their wives...for months.
They guests that the Pilgrim Fathers invited were none other than the Native Americans. After all, whom else could they invite?
The history books do not record this, but I have every reason to suspect the Native Americans at the time had a different view about this Thanksgiving Day feast. The primary reason they all came on this particular day was the assumption, and probably the language barrier created some of this confusion what with the Pilgrims always using words like Thee and Thou, that this was a going away party for the pilgrims.
Regardless of its genesis, Thanksgiving is a marvelous revelation of things we can be thankful for all year long. Most of the time all we hear is the bad news. It is good for us take one day out of the year, at least, and concentrate on good news.
Thanksgiving is a marvelous time for family and friends to get together to celebrate the goodness of the Lord. Each family has its own special tradition that seems to bring it together.
At Thanksgiving, we should bring a bouquet of blessing filling the room with a sweet fragrance of praise that lingers all year long.
Some of the best and most fragrant bouquets are the small ones. Remembering the big blessings is easy. The smaller blessings are much harder to keep in mind.
This Thanksgiving make a point to look over some blessing you have been overlooking. It is those small blessing that truly sustains us throughout the year.
But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:18-19 KJV).

Discover the Real Secret of Earning More and Working Less
Discover the Real Secret of Earning More and Working Less
by Robert Greenshields
There's one way that you can quickly and easily start earning more and working less in your business.
That's by getting someone else to do most of the work.
Maybe you've heard all about the power of outsourcing. Certainly many people tried to convince me of its value when I first set up my business.
But, like many business owners, I resisted embracing it.
All the reasons seemed good at the time I didn't know how to find people, I thought I could do it better myself and I was reluctant to spend money that didn't seem necessary.
Yet at the same time, there were not enough hours in the day to do everything that was needed. And I gradually realized that I didn't even know how to do many of the things that were essential for running a business.
It was only when I simply ran out of time to do everything needed that I began to see the true value of outsourcing. And boy do I regret not doing it sooner.
Why outsource? Here are some of the advantages I've discovered: It allows you to focus on your priority tasks; You cut the learning curve by employing an expert; They can probably do the job faster than you; It frees you up to do things you enjoy; Outsourcing can help you get projects making money faster; The outsourcing providers take on some of the risks involved; You get a fresh injection of thinking and creativity into your business.
What can you outsource? You can outsource just about anything you can think of, including: Customer support; Website design and programming; Graphic design; Copywriting for websites, scripts, advertising and eBooks; Accounting; Search engine optimization.
How to outsource Through the Internet, somebody in another part of the world is in a position to help you - probably at a fraction of the cost you'd pay someone around the corner.
The best way to find vendors is to get recommendations from other people. If you can't get recommendations, try them out yourself with small tasks before you give them anything big or important to do.
There are also several websites such as elance.com, rentacoder.com and scriptlance.com that provide access to outsourcing services.
This is how they generally work: You post details of the project or service you need help with; Vendors or freelancers post responses or bids; You select the vendor most suited to your needs, based on their proposals and on your view of their portfolio of past work; These services are usually free to buyers with the vendor paying a fee to the site when they are awarded the work; You agree payment terms; You keep in touch with them until the project or task is completed.
Of course, there are more like this and you should satisfy yourself that any suppliers you use are suited to your needs.
I certainly recommend the value of outsourcing and the power it can add to your business and your life.

With spyware such a serious threat, there are certain specific characteristics that must be expected from spyware or adware detection and removal software. Ideally, all antispyware solutions must do a complete PC clean.
Any software that picks up information from your computer without your awareness can be called Spyware. Some spyware just tracks your Internet connection and information related to your operating system. Obviously most people wouldn't allow spyware into their computers. Most people do not mind some tracking of data, provided personal information is not included. But they don't appreciate their computer being spied upon without their approval. When there is no antispyware installed, spyware does worm its way into the computer and gathers information.

The antispyware must be able to auto update itself with the latest definitions of spyware. It must have the facility of auto scheduling so that you don't have to manually do it each time. If you happen to accidentally erase something, you should be able to reverse the action.
Effective And Ease Of Operation
Your antispyware must not only detect and remove spyware and adware but also be able to prevent spyware from getting into your computer. It must be able to remove the maximum kinds of spyware and adware. Above all, you must find the antispyware easy to use. The language used must not be so complicated that you spend your time just figuring out what they mean. The antispyware scan must be quick and run in the background. Customization should be easy. You should be able to scan specific parts of your computer. You should also be able to choose which items to exclude from scanning. While setting up and installing the antispyware software should be easy and quick to download and install.

What Are The Early Indications You May Be A Victim of Identity Theft ?
What Are The Early Indications You May Be A Victim of Identity Theft ?
by Leon Edward
Identity theft can be extremely scary, and if you have recently lost a credit card or other types of financial documents, you are at high and immediate risk of being a victim of identity theft. If an identity thief gets a hold of your social security number or your drivers license, they may even be able to pass themselves off as you. Once they have your credit card, they can actually start racking up bills in your name as well.
If you see any evidence that someone has been tampering with your mail, this may be an early warning that someone is trying to steal your identity. Also, if your credit card bills have not arrived when they should, you should starting having some serious questions in your mind. At times identity thieves can actually get these statements so you are not able to see what is going on with your finances.
Another very strong sign that you may be a victim of identity theft is that if you see bills arriving for purchases you know you never made. This is another reason that identity thieves may try to get your mail so you do not know what is going on. Some times an identity thief can actually start to have your mail delivered to somewhere else, so if you do not receive important documents like bank statements and credit card bills, you may want to start looking into the problem.
Even if your bills and bank statements are not getting through to you, you may still be able to find some signs of the problem. You may be getting receipts, follow up promotions, and even thank you letters from companies you have never heard of before. Also, you may find that creditors start trying to contact you by telephone. If this happens, then you may have been a victim of identity theft.
You may also find that you have other problems with various financial services as well. Maybe you try to get a mortgage or a credit card, only to find out that your credit score has mysteriously dropped. This means you need to get a copy of your credit report to see what is going on with your credit that you do not know about. You may also get turned down for state benefits or social security as well. If they tell you that you are already getting these benefits, then it is probably because a identity thief is already getting those benefits under your name.
At times you could even find out that someone got a mobile phone and signed up for an extremely expensive contract and phone, all by using your name as well. If you find that you have evidence of a problem, then you need to start reviewing your finances to see what is going on. If you can detect identity theft early on, you will be able to take care of the problem before it becomes extremely bad for your credit and reputation.

Indian Cookery - Mixing Your Own Spices
Indian Cookery - Mixing Your Own Spices
by Liz Canham
While you can easily obtain ready mixed spices in most supermarkets or Asian speciality shops these days, you get a fresher, more authentic taste when you mix your own. It may be a little time consuming, but well worth it for the extra flavour.
If you are going to mix your own flavourings from whole, rather than powdered, ingredients, you will need an electric coffee grinder or spice grinder, otherwise you will not obtain the powdery consistency.
A much used spice mix, usually incorporated towards the end of cooking time, is Garam Masala (which actually means hot spice) and there are probably as many recipes as there are families in India. However, one of my favourite cookery writers is Madhur Jaffrey and in her book Indian Cookery, she recommends the following:
1 tbsp cardamom seeds
A 2 inch (5cm) stick of cinnamon
1 tsp black cumin seeds
1 tsp whole cloves
1 tsp black peppercorns
 of an average-sized nutmeg
Finely grind all the spices together and store in an air-tight jar in a cool dark place.
Another recipe uses rather more ingredients as follows:
1 tsp coriander seeds
1tsp cumin seeds
 a dried chilli
 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp black peppercorns
1tbsp cardamom pods
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 fairly large bayleaf
Remove the seeds from the cardamom pod and if you don't want a hot mix, the seeds from the dried chilli. As before, grind finely and store carefully.
For a slightly different, more aromatic flavour, dry roast the spices first in a frying pan.
If you often cook in a hurry, you may want to have a pre-prepared curry powder to hand. Shop bought curry powder is not particularly flavoursome, so make some of your own as store as for Garam Masala. Don't make too much at a time as it will lose its flavour.
1 tsp coriander seeds or coriander powder
Dried chillies or chilli powder to taste.
1 tsp cumin seeds or cumin powder
tsp garlic powder or garlic salt
tsp salt (omit if using garlic salt)
1 inch (2.5cm) cinnamon stick or 1 tsp cinnamon powder
1 large bayleaf
 tsp cloves
Seeds from 8 cardamom pods
1 tsp black peppercorns or powdered black pepper
If you are using whole spices, you will need an electric grinder, but if you are using powdered ingredients, just mix them together in a bowl or jar and store as before.

There are more than a thousand breweries all over Germany. The popularity of the German beer is the outcome of the strict process it undergoes before it is sold to the public. That is because beer manufacturers in Germany are required to follow the purity law. The purity law enables the beer manufacturers in Germany to differentiate which ingredient they must and must not use. The basic ingredients that the beer manufacturers Germany are allowed to use are water, hops, and barley malt.
It is the reason why German beers, by far, taste much more luscious from other beers. German beers have distinctive taste (of which has either little or no aftertaste). As soon as you have tasted and experienced the German beer, you will know the reason why German beers are very popular.

What Is So Special About Mongolian Barbecue?
What Is So Special About Mongolian Barbecue?
by Chris McCarthy
A Mongolian barbecue usually comprises raw seafood, thinly sliced meats, selected vegetables and enjoyed with rice. Mongolian barbecue is normally prepared on a flat metal surface.
To make the best Mongolian barbecue slice meat across the grain in 2-3 inch strips. Arrange meat and vegetable separately on platters. Prepare the sauce. Simmer soy sauce and garlic for few minutes in a saucepan. Strain and cool it. Add wine, sugar, ginger root, 2 cups of scallions or leeks, 2 cups of Chinese parsley. Refresh the sauce with some more scallions or leeks and parsley.
Assemble the barbecue and place the cooking appliance in the center table. Heat and grease the cooking surface. Scrape off the charred food bits and re-oil the cooking surface and resume cooking. Guests can put vegetables and meat on plates and place small portions on the cooking surface and spoon some of the sauce over the grilling food. Flip the food after one minute on the grill with chopsticks. Cook to the guest's desired doneness.
The favorite Mongolian Barbecues
Roasted lamb is the traditional Mongolian delicacy prepared in the honor of special guests. The local food of Mongolia is a blend of Mongolian and Chinese tastes. There is the influence of Muslim food and wide use of lamb in their dishes. Inner Mongolia raises a lot of cattle and their diet has a lot of dairy products.
Roasted lamb and cooked mutton are the signature dishes of Mongolian cuisine at celebrations like weddings and birthdays. It is customary for Mongolians to cut off a piece of meat from fatty tail of animal to first taste and let festivities begin. Another special feature of Mongolians is that they drink sour goat milk and not fresh cow milk.
Grilling the best Mongolian Barbecue
The Mongolian grilled lamb lettuce recipe may be of interest to you. You can start by placing all lamb ingredients in a flameproof dish to boil and simmer. Cover and cook for 2 hours. Pre-heat the grill to high heat. Grill the lamb until the skin is crispy. Warm the remaining sauce for 10-15 minutes and make it thick. Let the cooked lamb cool in air for 15 minutes. Remove bone and shred it and arrange on a serving plate. To serve take some spicy hot sauce, some cucumber, spring onions and lamb and roll up into a parcel.
The Mongolian national meals are Buuz, Khuushuur and Bansh, made with minced meat. The meat can be of anything from mutton, to beef, to camel, to horse or gazelle, seasoned with garlic or onion, covered with flour and steamed in boiling water, fried in oil and boiled in water. They consume large quantities of meat. This is to stave off the cold and long winters. Mongolians are basically nomadic herders and so dependence on animal product is natural. They rely less on seasonable foods like vegetables and fruits. Meat and dairy products, when sour in summer, is believed to clean the stomach.

How To Select The Notebook That Meets Your Requirements?
How To Select The Notebook That Meets Your Requirements?
by Roberto Sedycias
For the past ten years there has been a tremendous growth in the usage of notebook or laptop computers. The impact is that the notebooks are slowly replacing the traditional desktop computers from home as well as from office. There are so many varieties, technologies and brands of notebooks available in the market that it has become very difficult for a regular user to identify the best fit for his or her needs. This article will help you in getting a few tips on how to select the right notebook and make the most out of your investment.
A notebook offers several advantages. The most important being the trouble-free mobility. This is enhanced by the easily available wireless internet connections all over the world. It is very convenient to carry all your work with you anywhere you go. Advancement in technology has brought down the weight and size of the notebooks significantly, making it even more comfortable for a regular user.
What are the things that you should consider before purchasing your notebook? Start with doing an analysis of your needs. Ask questions like: For what purpose will I use this notebook? The answers could include -- for internet browsing, chatting, high-end graphic designing, gaming, business or official work, programming, application development, etc. The type of notebook you choose will depend on what you need it for.
When you do your research, make notes on the prices, technical features, configuration, guarantees, and performance that each notebook has to offer. You would need to decide whether you want a notebook from an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or from a brand. It is believed that brand notebooks offer better post-sales service, and guarantee, while OEM notebooks are cheaper and offer the same hardware quality as the brand ones.
If you need a notebook that is small and light and should be carried around easily while you are traveling, go for the ultra-portable range models. These notebooks have screens smaller than 12 inches and weigh up to 5 pounds. Some models of such notebooks include Sony Vaio PCG-U3, Fujitsu Lifebook P1510, Toshiba Libretto U100, Panasonic R4, Dell Latitude X1 and many more.
If you are a business professional looking for a thin and light notebook that offers durability, security and all important features necessary for your office, then you can select from a wide range of business notebooks. These include Apple MacBook, Dell XPS M1210, Sony VAIO FJ, and Dell Latitude and etc.
If you are addicted to gaming you would need a notebook that has the capability to present high-end graphics performance. These would include notebooks with the latest processors, increased RAM and hard disk storage space, faster CPUs, top-of-the line graphic display capability, great wireless connectivity and a host of other compatibility features. Some of the best gaming notebooks include Alienware Aurora, Dell XPS M170, and Rock Xtreme CTX PRO and etc.
If you are looking for just an economic replacement for your desktop and you do not want to spend on a high-end notebook, then you can select from a variety of models offered by Acer, Apple, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba. These notebooks are fashioned to be used at a fixed location and weigh up to 13 pounds, so they are not very convenient if you have to travel a lot. They generally have bigger screen sizes and lower battery life.
Apart from the notebooks mentioned above you can also pick tablet PCs, transportables, high-end personal digital assistants (PDAs), handheld computers, or smart phones. These are mobile devices that you can carry with you wherever you go, if mobility is all you are looking for.

Oops Mama Fell Get The Block and Tackle
Oops Mama Fell Get The Block and Tackle
by Dale B. Adams
Id rather leap down a flight of stairs blind-folded than to watch an elder fall. Falling is a very embarrassing experience for anybody and especially harmful to our seniors. As we age our bones become fragile and can break with ease. Once a bone gets broken such as a hipbone, it is all down hill from there. They may never fully recover. A senior falling can be the equivalent of a death sentence.
Almost half of our thoroughbred Americans fall every year. This statistic is way too high and needs to be lowered. By taking preventive measures we can greatly reduce this number.
Female caregivers have a disadvantage when caring for the elderly. As I was visiting some caregiver support groups I noticed some women caregivers were having trouble lifting their loved ones when they fall. They were pondering to rent a hoist because they werent strong enough to lift them. I suggested they search for some walking aids to prevent the falls.
Below are some useful tips that will assist you in preventing elders from falling.
1) Make sure they have a high protein diet to strengthen muscles.
2) Buy them a good pair of running shoes with good arch support.
3) Install high watt light bulbs so they can see better (As we age our eyes require more light.)
4) Ensure they have a good diet and take vitamins for proper nourishment.
5) Remove lamps because elders have a tendency to reach for items to stabilize themselves and lamps easily fall. (Install overhead lights)
6) Install night-lights in the bedroom and bathroom.
7) Assist them walking every opportunity you can.
8) Elevate their legs with a footstool so blood doesnt linger there.
9) Install ledges or rails on wall areas where they often feel unsteady.
10) Get them a walker or other assistance.
11) Make the home handicap accessible. (Handicap showers have no ledges to climb over and offer a seat)
12) Inspect home for loose thresholds, moving rugs or other falling hazards.
13) Keep their ears clean to enable balance. (Consult your Doctor)
14) Be certain they have proper vision aids to see where they are going.
15) Encourage them to stretch their legs at times by bending over.
